@coacheswife123: my LO is in hypoallergenic formula (Alimentum) for her supplementing because she had reactions to both milk protein formula and soy formula. I just took a quick look at the can and I don't think I saw whey protein in the ingredients.

ETA - I was also uncomfortable using soy formula because of the reasons described above.

@Mrs. High Heels: @SugarplumsMom: my husband is highly allergic to whey protein which is in most formulas - so that couple with LO milk sensitivities is why my ped recommended soy ? And, I would only be using it to make up what I was lacking - so he would still be getting breastmilk. If we try to avoid whey protein our options are quite limited :(

Soy formula hasn't been available in Europe for awhile now because of the estrogen issue. But I've read that there's debate on the initial findings done years ago and the recent studies say it's safe (that's why it's still available in the US). But I played it safe anyway.

However, my niece (in high school now) was given soy as a baby, per recommendation by her pediatrician and she turned out fine. Last winter, I ran out of Neocate for our long flight home and ended up running to a 24-hr Wal-Mart and getting a pack of ready to serve soy formula. My milk protein intolerant baby guzzled it down!

I would be hesitant to use anything soy based because of the phytoestrogens in soy. http://www.westonaprice.org/soy-alert/tragedy-of-soy-formula

We didn't use soy but we used 'special' formula and then when he started milk he was on soy. He did great with it! I hope J transitions well! We mixed bottles (1/2 bm, 1/2 formula) to keep him from favoring one over the other. It seemed to help! Good luck mama!

At 9 months I'm not keeping up with LO demand anymore. I talked to his ped about supplementing and asked if I should use gentlease since he had milk issues. He gave me 3 huge things of the pre mixed soy formula to try since LO has always tolerated soy fine.

Anyone else use soy formula to supplement ? I'm a total formula newb !
