I got pneumonia and a kidney infection when lo2 was 6 months old. My supply was next to nothing. Like pp, a TON of water and calories were essential!!!!! More milk plus I think was also what helped me regain so much of my supply.

Thanks everyone for the tips! I'm seeing modest improvements, but will be patient since it seems to take awhile to rebuild supply!

I had a supply drop after getting a bad cold and sinus infection a few months ago. As other people said, it took about 3 weeks for supply to come back. What helped me the most was doing power pumps (10 min on, 10 min off for an hour) each day. I also drank a ton of water and tried to eat a high calorie diet (cheeseburgers). I read somewhere that your body needs protein and water to make milk, so you need to make sure you're giving your body the necessary ingredients so to speak. And then pumping/nursing as much as possible is key. Good luck.

I had a supply drop from mastitis and some other clogged ducts. It took about 2 weeks to get back up after mastitis. I just drank a bunch and pumped extra for my pumping session (definitely 5 minutes past empty) and maybe I added an extra one if I needed to. Also, lots of calories and if you're not pumping then do skin to skin and take a nursing vacation in bed.

Oh no! Hope you're feeling better!!

I would take a "nursing vacation" and try to stay in bed skin to skin with baby. Lots of nursing, drink tons of water and eat lots of healthy, calorie filled snacks, and get someone to make you lactation cookies!! It's all about the oatmeal and Brewers yeast. You can also take fenugreek/blessed thistle, if needed. Good luck!!

Tons of fluid. Gatorade always seems to up my supply. I also used a nursing tincture by herblore when I was struggling with supply in he beginning. It made a big difference. I recommended it to a friend of mine and she doubled her pumping output.

I was severely dehydrated after getting food poisoning and it took me 3 weeks for my supply to fully recover. (To be fair, I only really tried hard for a week until I was 90% there, then just pumped a little more than usual for the next few weeks.) I drank lots and lots of water, ate oatmeal with peanut butter for breakfast, drank mother's milk tea and pumped every three hours.

I would try lots of skin to skin time, especially with your newborn. All of the things the pp suggested. Also, don't hesitate to contact a lactation consultant. The ones at our local hospital are super awesome about helping come up with a plan for things like this and they can have medications prescribed for you as well.

Gatorade. Water. 200 ounces ounces day. More calories than you think you need. Oatmeal with flax seeds and coconut oil and peanut butter.

I was hospitalized over the weekend for severe dehydration due to a virus I caught from my toddler. I am breastfeeding and pumping for my newborn but my supply has totally crashed. I am sure I am still dehydrated but any tips on getting my supply back up after an illness like this? Does anyone have any relevant experience? I'm just nervous because once my supply crashed with my first, it was gone for good no matter what I did.
