Maybe you were just having trouble getting a letdown with the pump? I have been looking at pics of LO or having DH walk her in front of me and that helps. Sometimes I just can't get one and then I'm a little bummed.

I wouldn't worry much. I always found that if I skipped a few days of pumping, it would take a several pump sessions to get a decent amount. If she is satisfied and growing, your supply is fine!

@runsyellowlites: Oh I see! OK. Well, I do already nurse her on demand and to no limit. I think she's been going through a growth spurt or Wonder Week the past week because we had several days of 1/2 hour sessions! But yesterday she was back down to 10 min. sessions like normal. This morning (after 8 hours) I finally got her when she was stirring and basically did a Dream Feed. I guess I should just keep doing what I've been doing. She doesn't seem hungry after feeding, but I thought it would be nice to get at least a 2oz. amount to freeze every day or two to build a small stash.

@shopaholic: Get a new show on Netflix or a few good movies, hang out in bed doing lots of skin to skin, and just nurse on demand. Have hubby bring you food & drink to stay fed/hydrated, and just enjoy lots of cuddles & nursing with bebe! ;)

And if you start pumping then your supply should pretty quickly adjust to the demand BUT you should also up nursing before throwing in a pump session, unless it's truly an "extra" session like when she's sleeping... even then I'd probably try some side lying & dream feeding. She's going to do a MUCH better job at signaling your body than your pump and not just b/c she's more efficient but b/c the hormone releases from the snuggles as well.

@runsyellowlites: What is a "nurse-in"? Thanks for the advice! I'm kicking myself now for not continuing pumping while we had the supposed-thrush, because I didn't want to "waste" the milk. I wonder if I add in some pumping sessions every day if it would help increase so I can get back to getting a good 3-4 oz./day?

I wouldn't worry. I pumped every morning for a few weeks when we were doing a dreamfeed and even when LO was sleeping/eating on the same rough schedule the amount I pumped varied wildly. As long as she seems happy and healthy I wouldn't sweat it!

You are approching the time that your supply would be regulating AND she has been sttn for a good little bit already for her age... I don't think I'd be too concerned about not getting much during a pump session but I would do a nurse-in over the weekend (I would always do that first birth using supplements).

Tbh, once your supply regulates (especially if you haven't been pumping) it's TOTALLY normal when nursing full time for it to take 2-3 pump sessions to get a full feeding. (check out kellymom's pumping resources).

Just feed often & stay hydrated at this point... if you still feel low after the weekend (which your lo lady would totally tell you) then maybe add some oatmeal, lactation cookies, or other supplements. ;)

ETA: always alternate sides from one feeding to the next! If one side has lower supply than the other you *can* start on that side for a few feedings in a row (be sure it gets some stimulation each feeding until it catches up) but you don't want to just forget about the other side... it needs stimulation to keep supply up too. (kellymom also has info on this on lopsidedness)

@brownie: She does seem full. Usually falls asleep while feeding. So you mean to pump the side that I didn't last feed from? And feed her again on the same side I last fed? Because that's the side I got like 0.5 oz from. You're saying that because baby gets more than the pump right?

Does he seem full when you feed him? I did this and would pump the full side first thing in the morning while he nursed on the other side. It helped pull more out. If one pumping session is the only concern you probably shouldn't worry.

K went 8 hours last night till this morning in between feedings. Since we always only feed from one side, and I am just awake, I decided might as well pump the other side. Since our bout with thrush, I had stopped pumping, and only recently squeeze in a pumping session every other day.
BUT, I was shocked that on the side I didn't feed from this morning, I only got LESS than 1 oz! I tried pumping for about 10 min. Then I tried pumping on the side I did BF from and it was just a few drops. :( Turned it up so high, it kind of hurts a little now. But how can it be that I got so little milk when I hadn't even fed from that side in 8 hours?!?!

I know I've been ravenously hungry the past few days (assuming a growth spurt) and been trying to eat a lot more. I've also been waking up hungry, but usually skip a breakfast since K will sleep in till 10:30-11 am. Felt bad about that and went and got 2 breakfast sandwiches immediately!

So I'm not sure if my lack of milk is because:
a) Body is regulated to STTN and BF'ing from one side.
b) Not making enough milk because I'm hungry.

OR what else could it be?
Should I be concerned? Add more pumping sessions to increase supply? Start taking supplements like Fenugreek?
* Well, actually I did take one dose last night because I felt like my BBs are already feeling so much smaller than before (and my supply/engorgement had already regulated about 3-4 weeks ago).

Feeling concerned...
