I have the same problem. I returned to work at 7 weeks PP. LO is now 7 mos. Its been a constant battle.
I have tried new flanges, that was not it.
I talked to my LC and she thought I should maybe try a Hospital Grade pump. I have the Medela PIS and she said thats a great pump and was surprised but figured give the Hospital one a try.

Mt let down takes forever, it would take me an hour to fully empty both breast. Now with the hospital one its a little better. down to 30-40 minuites. My let down is slow with pumping.

Key thing to remember is dont judge your supply or let down off of what you experience pumping. No matter how good the pump its never as good as baby. If your LO is happy, healthy, nursing and sleeping fine, I wouldnt worry. Unfortunatly you are probably just part of the not so fun club of struggling with pumping. I HATE pumping!

@purrpletulips: 4 months today.. i'll look around for one..

Found it, if it's useful for others: http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/feeding-tools/bottle-feeding/

This actually says an average of 3.5oz per feeding, which is about right.. she's drinking 4 bottles while I'm away from her so 12-16oz is right on.

@jojogirl: I don't recall how old your LO is, but that seems like an awful lot. kelly mom also has a calculator for how much you should expect your LO to drink in a day

@purrpletulips: Huh - I've never heard that. LO is drinking around 16 oz in 10 hrs..

Another thought - is it possible that your childcare provider is overfeeding your LO? The general guideline is 1 oz for every hour you are separated. Also, you might want to check how they are feeding your LO; are they using a paced feeding (http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/feeding-tools/bottle-feeding/)

i'm in a similar situation--we nurse on the weekends and LO seems satiated and sleeps okay, but i do not pump enough during the day to keep up with his daycare intake. i do think nursing is always going to be more efficient/effective than pumping, although the flange fit is an interesting idea. i may look into it. or not. i'm okay with supplementing with formula.

I have the same problem. Curious to hear what people will say. My LC fitted my flanges so that's not my issue!

It is possible that you are using the wrong size flanges. Most resources say that people usually need to go bigger but I had to go smaller.

There are many resources online to help determine proper fit but I liked this one best. http://www.ameda.com/breast-pumping/getting-started/flange-fit

From what I've read some women just don't respond that well to the pump so it is completely possible that your supply is perfectly adequate when exclusively nursing. The other option could be that your pump is faulty or needs new parts - what kind of pump do you have and how old is it? And do you have any luck hand expressing or doing compressions while pumping?

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue? LO is 7.5 months and we've been breastfeeding since the beginning. When I went back to work, I really had to work to get enough for day care and blew through my small freezer stash. We gradually started supplementing and she now get about half breast milk and half formula at day care. On the weekends, though, no formula. She eats every 2-3 hours and usually sleeps through the night, so it seems like she's getting plenty.

Anyone else in this situation? Do you think it's just that the pump doesn't work as well? I've also noticed my let down is much slower lately, which I find strange and is pissing off LO.
