@Happygal: It's kickboxing so just a lot of jabs, uppercuts, and hooks for arms and kicks. There are some push-ups, sit-ups, and lunges but they are very minimal. The music can be a little weird but it's mostly just upbeat dance music remixes because the tracks are really long.

Prenatal yoga is today and I'm so excited!

Oh no! I totally dropped the ball on this one. Does somebody want to get us going for Aug-October?

@namaste: what is the class actually like? Maybe I should give it a shot!

@Mrs. Lion: have you found something that works for you? What types of workouts do you normally enjoy? It's been such nice weather here that I need to get some good long walks in with my dog.

@Mrs. Sunshine: congrats! Yes, I've heard that you can continue doing whatever you've done before, within reason. Have you looked into pregnant fitness blogs? I saw a few bloggers write about that very topic--having to modify things and accept it.

@BushelandPeck: glad you wrote this morning b/c I had missed the last posts. I'm so impressed that you're still in a routine! Finding classes that fit your schedule is tough. I wish they offered more prenatal classes after work hours.

@Happygal: doing pretty good here at 32+2. Still going to the gym a few times each week and trying to walk on alternate days with DS. My hamstrings and back are starting to feel tight so I obviously need to stretch more (something I'm terrible at doing) and I'm looking into prenatal yoga but haven't found anything that fits my schedule. I went weekly with DS and it was really helpful son in bummed that I haven't been able to commit to it this time. I hope everyone is doing well!

@Mrs. Lion: I second your question!

I just found out I'm pregnant & have no hugely debilitating symptoms yet but I have definitely noticed a huge drop in ability. My runs are only half as long before I'm pushing it & my strength is suddenly barely qualified to be labeled as strength. lol from what I understand, you can do whatever you want work out wise during pregnancy as long you're not pushing yourself or adding anything on to your pre-preg routine. Right? How do you keep from getting discouraged? I was getting so proud of myself for going longer, harder & further than I ever imagined & now I just don't feel like doing much nor am I able to & it's hard not to give up.

So, what is everyone doing these days? I am almost out of the first trimester coma and want to get back to exercising asap. I am starting to get used to laying around and that scares me because i spent so much time building good habits and a new lifestyle...i feel like i have slipped into my "old ways" and it scares me. But, my first pregnancy i had an sch that put me pn bedrest for most of my second trimester, so i am terrified to overdo it too. I would love to hear what you ladies are doing and how you are feeling!

@Happygal: I actually LOVE BodyCombat haha. It's a great way to take out aggression.

I loathed BodyAttack. It was just terrible for me.

I absolutely love my prenatal yoga class and instructor. I wish the classes were more regular but it's hard when there's only four mommas in the room.

And here's another question: what types of group classes do NOT appeal to you? I was looking over my gym's schedule and saw "Body Combat" and thought, "That sounds awful!" I'm a mellower kind of gal and like gentler sounding classes.

Whoah! Totally dropped the ball on this one. We moved and things have been hectic. I have not darkened the doors of the gym in awhile, but I'm going to try to make a prenatal yoga class today! I'm 14 weeks tomorrow, so I feel legit.

@psw27: I thought I had the basics of pregnancy down, but the debate about when the trimesters start through me for a loop! I guess the variation comes from whether you go off the date of conception or LMP?

I've let work totally take priority over fitness this week. Only activity has been taking my dog for a walk. I need to get to the gym today for sure!

@namaste: thanks! It's at our gym, and the woman who leads the class is also a doula. People love her, and I'm eager to start. I doubt they would kick me out if I showed up a few weeks early, but that's also the type of thing I'm a rule follower about.

@Happygal: I think you would be okay to start at 12 weeks but maybe just give them a call to make sure. I think anywhere between 12-14 weeks is the end of the first trimester depending on what resource you are looking at!

@Happygal: I've been told 14 weeks was the second trimester but I've never seen any classes that set a date on which trimester you start attending. I would call the studio and ask if it would be ok for you to attend, especially since you're interested.

Working at home is the best :P

Ok-question for you all. The prenatal yoga class at my gym is for people in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. I thought I would start going at 12 weeks, but some site the other day listed 14 weeks as the start of the 2nd trimester. I'm confused!

@psw27: humidity is killer! Walking is so good for you, so I'm glad you can do it when the temps allow for it.

I'm still in pjs b/c I couldn't sleep last night. I'm very grateful for being able to work at home and grab naps on days like these!

@Mrs. Lion: Hmmm. It depends on your definition of "successfully!" I count just getting up and moving around as a success. I don't get dizzy or anything like that, but I have had a change in stamina. Definitely listen to your body. Perhaps your doctor can suggest low impact exercise that would be beneficial for you and the baby.

@bushelandapeck: I'm impressed! Good for you. I did read your message right when I was snacking on a bowl of popcorn, a whole mess of empty calories.

@psw27: the humidity is killer! It just saps all the energy out of me. We've had some seriously muggy days. How far is your walk?

@BakerBee: well, yes--you must eat it. This is true! The wagon is right there and waiting for you. No worries.

@Happygal: I wasn't as active as I wanted to be last week because we were out of town Th-Sun. I made it to the gym Sunday and Tues and walked Friday/Sat. Back to my usual routine though this week and I've been feeling good about that. Also trying not to snack on empty calories and focus more on fruit and veggies when I'm hungry. It's only partially working ;)

Has anyone been successful working out in the first trimester? I have felt like complete crap for 3 weeks now but dragged myself to the gym this afternoon just so lo could play in the nursery and we could get out of the house. I got so dizzy and winded just walking into the building and up the stairs that I had to sit down. Seriously, is it supposed to be this bad? What kinds of things should I be trying to do right now?

Oh, I'm also focusing on diet this week. Trying to be more consistent with eating meals at regular times and not doing my usual peckish type of eating that doesn't work so well with pregnancy. Our diet is pretty good to begin with, but I'm trying to incorporate more fish, limit red meat, and have at least one vegetarian meal each week. My doctor is a big fan of the Mediterranean diet, so that's what we're going for!

So, how was last week? What are your goals for this week?

Last week wasn't super active for me. We traveled out of town for the 4th. My goal is to get to the gym at least 3 times by the end of the week.

@cmomma17: of course you can join! I see this as a continual thread. Sorry to hear you're feeling down, but you can turn things around! What kind of payoffs did you see during your first pregnancy? Let that be motivation for you!

@Happygal: thank you for starting this thread. Hope it's not too late to join in!

How far along are you? 6 weeks
Baby # 2! (#1 is 14 months)
Were you active before getting pregnant? I have been active in the past, but unfortunately I was doing a lot of being lazy and stress eating in the weeks leading up to being pregnant. I gained back a lot of the weight I had recently lost from pregnancy #1 so now I'm feeling pretty gross and down on myself :(
Do you have specific goals? No, but I'd love to figure some out!
What type of exercise do you enjoy? Walking, running, yoga, group classes when I had the time to take them (pre-kids), weights, fun videos at home.
Anything else? I am a stress/emotional eater! I also really want to turn things around and get back in better shape ASAP. I worked out and ate well for my first pregnancy and it really paid off! This morning I asked DH if I looked pregnant and he said "you look like someone who doesn't work out" :( :( :( Ouch - the truth hurts!!

@allison: Hi welcome! Definitely try out some of the prenatal yoga videos on Youtube if you have the time. :) They're short and you can take breaks when you're feeling a tired or dizzy. I think that definitely helps prepare you for class.

I've also had a lot of aversions and just found out I lost four pounds in the first trimester. Ugh :/ Staying safe while exercising is important! Hopefully getting your metabolism moving will help you gain an appetite.

@Mrs. Lion: Welcome and congratulations on the 30lb loss! That's awesome! Here's to hoping for a healthy pregnancy :) I also didn't do much after finding out because I was super nervous and very sick. It's ok to take it slow I think! Jillian Michaels is so good/bad :)

@Happygal: I'm glad pilates went well! I keep trying to get into the prenatal yoga at my gym/hospital (long story) but I was out of town last week and classes are cancelled this Friday. Hopefully next week! I love practicing at home but I miss the group.

I'm taking it easy today and might do some back stretches since I've been feeling up and down. Happy workouts!

@Happygal: Thanks for the welcome :). I guess my main goal is just to strengthen my body to help prepare it for labor. I know I shouldn't set any goals that are too lofty, at this point. I think yoga will definitely help. If I can just remember to go :/

Pilates reformer went well the other day. It's a really great workout, but I don't know if I'll get to use it that often b/c the classes fill up quickly.

I'm excited to soon enter the second trimester and join the prenatal yoga class at my gym.

My biggest challenge right now is changing the way I eat. Before pregnancy, I usually skipped breakfast, ate a "this-and-that" type of lunch, had a mid-afternoon snack, and then dinner. Always at different times. That hasn't really worked out well for me as a pregnant person, so at least once a day, I feel bad and know it's just b/c I haven't eaten enough. It's hard to change eating habits though! I also could be drinking more water for sure.

@Mrs.Someone: that is really frustrating! I hope it wasn't too far of a drive. Gardening can be a good workout!

Yeah! I'm glad to see some activity here. Please throw out/get going any ideas you have for keeping this thread moving along.

@allison: welcome! I'm glad to see another not-so-active member like me! I don't really love exercising, but I am always happy afterwards. I don't know if I'll ever get to the point where I feel excited to go to the gym.

In terms of advice for easing into things, it would be helpful to know what you're hoping to achieve. Do you have a general goal in mind?

@charmed: protein picks for me include LOTS of greek yogurt, cheese, and nuts. Those are for snacks. I need to expand my menu!

@Mrs. Lion: welcome! Jillian Michaels is no joke! My husband looked at the cover of one of her DVDs and asked me why she looked so smug. He's right! I hope you can avoid bed rest this go round.

Ok, I had my first ultrasound today and I feel confident enough to finally join this thread! :)

How far along are you? 5 weeks

Baby # 2

Were you active before getting pregnant? Yes. I have added daily exercise to my life and have lost 30 lbs in the last 6 months.

Do you have specific goals? I want to maintain my strength and prevent the back pain that I experienced with my first pregnancy. I would also like to gain only weight that is necessary for the baby to grow.

What type of exercise do you enjoy? I like kickboxing, yoga, walking, occasionally running, hiking, and I use Jillian Michaels videos for strength training. I haven't done anything except walking since finding out about the pregnancy because raising my heart rate at all makes me very dizzy and I am a bit scared.

Anything else? I was on bed rest for much of my second trimester last time due to a sch, so I am a little bit afraid of pushing myself too far this time and having another. Trying to figure out the right balance of exercise and rest.
