Not yet but I'm pondering surprising him with a trip to pebble beach for his 35th. I'll schedule it far enough he can request time off I know he has.
My co-workers wife surprised him with a 3day weekend to Mexico for his 30th. She contacted our project manager beforehand and requested time off for him. :)

GL!

@mrs. bird: I've tried lol but I'm not very good and I don't think I'd have fun skiing for a weekend. DH is more into it. He used to go skiing in the mountains in NY, NH and Vermont. Here in MN we don't have mountains but way up north there is a pseudo mountain with a great ski resort. I know he'd love it.

Haha about packing lol! Well I guess I was thinking it'd be like, he tells me there is a surprise and quickly go pack. That would be ideal. I don't even know what he'd try to pack for me lol

@Coco Bee: I don't think I would love being surprised, maybe if he told me the day before so I could pack, but the idea of DH trying to pack my suitcase for a vacation scares me, lol. He likes surprises though and planning is more stressful for him, so I feel like a planned vacation would be the ultimate gift for him:) ski weekends with friends can be so much fun! I'm sure your DH would love that! Do you ski?

@eeh: I'm sorry vacations are hard for you guys:( but it sounds like your DH's job leads to some spontaneous adventures! Those can be just as exciting as planned surprises, they're a surprise to both people! :) our anniversary isn't until October, so hopefully if I start making arrangements now, his work could find coverage. Still not sure if they'd let me request time off on his behalf, but I might try! it's our first anniversary and the past couple years have been super stressful, I wanna surprise him with something relaxing.

I would love this!! but I am horrible at finding out surprises lol DH has only successfully surprised me a couple times.

I am keeping this in mind for DH for his birthday next year. I know he LOVES skiing and hasn't gone since he moved here with me. So I am thinking of asking his friends next year if they'd go with him and I'd plan the whole thing. It'd be a weekend thing though.

BUT I almost did this for him for Christmas, and I was actually considering going to his boss (whom I've met) and asking her to facilitate the time off for me so it'd be a surprise. I knew he had like 3 vacation days left of the year so it would have been perfect.

This would never work for us. My husband's work is far too complicated and getting days off takes lots and lots of advance planning and calculating and counting days in the future and past to make sure he doesn't take too many within a certain timeframe. Most of our trips end up being surprises for both of us because we'll be looking at his work and see we have a window of opportunity so we'll jump in the car and go. Can't go anywhere too far but just getting away is good enough.

@Andrea: awww! That's so sweet!

@Leialou: Very cool! Sox vs yanks, intense! We're from ma:)

@autumnlove: That's a really smart way to go about it! It must be hard not to still where you were going!

@purrpletulips: I love when people are still so in love and wanting to do sweet things for one another! I found a great deal on the trip so I can cover it out of my own money, so he won't notice. But that would be tricky! That's nice that his boss let your mom request the time off, DH's boss may not go for that though.

I surprised him with a weekend away for his bday so no time off needed. I packed his bags while he was out running some errands and then told him to get in the car.

DH tried to trick me that we were going to Paris but we really went to Tuscany and he proposed there!

My hubby has never done this for me nor I have for him, but I always think it is so sweet and thoughtful for the someone to do this since it requires a lot of logistics and you can't tell your SO!

@Leialou: I've always wanted to go to Schlitterbahn!

He surprised me on my 19th birthday with a trip to Boston to see the Red Sox play the Yankees. We had unbelievable seats. It was my first time flying anywhere too.

I told DH to ask for certain days off because I was planning a surprise trip. I gave him a list of things to pack and told him the expected weather conditions. Of course he wanted to know the destination but I was able to keep it a secret until we were waiting for our cab to the airport. I had him open up a gift that included a Dodgers away jersey, a guidebook about Chicago and a pair of Cubs vs Dodgers tickets for the next day. He was thrilled and we had a blast on that trip!

My mom did this for my dad with a trip to Vegas for their 30th anniversary. In their case, she opened a credit card in only her name and used her work address so the statements wouldn't go to the house (they have joint accounts and my dad primarily does the bills). She also contacted his boss privately and explained what she wanted to do and requested the time off for him. She wasn't going to tell him until the day before they left, but my sister and I knew about it and wanted to be there when she told him so we arranged to all meet at a central place for dinner about a week before they left (under the premise that neither my sister or I could visit on their actual anniversary but wanted to celebrate with them since it was a "big one"). She then presented him with a folder containing their flight and hotel arrangements along with brochures from some of the casinos. It took him a minute to figure it out but he was so excited and a little bummed that he had to wait a week before they left.
