M is 9 months today and we're having a really hard time lately. She's up for the day at 5am with garbage naps and SO cranky all day :( She's getting all 4 top teeth now and she's right on the verge of crawling (rocking back and forth on all fours) and very frustrated. I obviously have no wisdom to share but I'm glad to hear that we're not alone in not loving nine months.

ughh we're in this boat. for a glorious WEEK O seemed like she might start sleeping somewhat normally - as in, 1-2 night nursings and 2-3 wakeups. Now she's up for like, hours and hours in the middle of the night and SO MANY TIMES!

she is pulling up now too, and plays instead of sleeping. she also is crawling in her sleep. oy.

@Running Elley: I dont really know how I "knew". I think it was more of, its been 2.5 months, im over this BS, lets try sleep training again. We tried to keep to our routine, but I did get desperate for a while and started giving her a night bottle again.

Do what you have to do to survive this. Cs sleep went back to normal again.

@googly-eyes: gosh, I was SO lucky up until she turned 8 months.. I guess I'm still pretty lucky, I was just spoiled before. At 4 AM ish she starts screaming, but the moment she's in bed with me she's sound asleep.. Ridiculous! Btw, if I don't put her in bed with me she'll wake up once more at 6.. Urgh..

If it makes you feel any better A's sleep went to crap at six months and unless I nurse her to sleep she does the stand up and yell thing too!

Thankfully her sleep has improved in the last month and she'll even bust out an all-nighter every now and then (hooray!).

As far as I've read, it's all developmental and par for the course...

@Running Elley: I'm still going through this with you.. My LO only wakes up 2 times, but it's 2 times more than she ever did before and it's making both of us exhausted! I usually go in and pat her to sleep the first time (takes 10 min.) then just put her in bed with me the second time bc I'm too tired at 4 in the morning.. She LOVES sleeping with me.. And sleeps so well.. But I do not want her always in bed with me. We need some mommy & daddy time too!

From 8 months old to just after making 9 months old dd was the same and ended up in our room in the pack n play most nights. She's now much better at night but she's currently in her crib crying and resisting a nap. Naps are still terrible. :(

@zippylef: We did CIO the first time we sleep trained as well. How did you know that she was "over" the regression? And oh my goodness, awake for 2 hours??? Stubborn girl :)

Today I just feel so frustrated. We were doing so well, I just felt like we were getting into our groove and now I'm exhausted after being up 6 times last night and he just woke up after only napping for 20 minutes and is standing screaming in his crib. I don't want to undo all the work we've done with his sleep but I am just.... Sooooo tired.

@Running Elley: She was doing the standing up screaming thing too. I will say that at 9 months, I dont think training would have worked. At 11 months, she was mostly over the regression and it wasn't too bad. We did CIO.

She still does it sometimes except now she stands up and plays in her crib instead of sleeping, not crying. We've started Super Nanny-ing her and we just go in and put her back down and cover her up without saying anything to her (We say "its time for bed" the first time). Seems to be working alright. Its getting better. She was staying awake for like 2 hours EVERY night before falling asleep!

@zippylef: How did you sleep train??? Was she standing up? I don't understand how to possibly sleep train with him this mobile :( I'm really hoping it doesn't get to that point but in the past I've always thought that we survived sleep training once and we can do it again if we have to. But now I'm not so sure :(

Oh lord, that was the WORST. Her sleep sucked from about 9-11 months, until we sleep trained again. It was brutal.

I think it's really a combination of things. Sleep regression, 2 back-to-back wonder weeks, developmental leaps. It's just a rough age for sleep because they have so much going on. The change SO much in those couple months.

It DOES end though! Stay strong!

We co slept until 7 months and then J slept in his crib in our room until 12 months but I remember waking 3 or 4 times a night around 9 months and having to soothe him each time! It was exhausting and he did nap longer to make up for the broken sleep. Hang in there! It will pass!

I need some reassurance that this will end! E will be 9 months old next week and his sleep has gone from wonderful STTN to complete crap in the past week. I think he's teething but no stinking teeth have broken through. He's had a low fever and been really clingy.

Buttt the sleep is the worst. His naps aren't bad but he's started waking up once every 2ish hours (it's 4:55am here and he's whining in his crib and has been awake since 4:15- this is wake up #5 since he went to bed at 7:30). He won't go back to sleep unless DH or I are in his room with our hand on his back or playing with his hair.

He's obviously exhausted during the day. Yesterday he napped for 3.5 hours in the morning! Does this sound like a sleep regression? Did you have to do anything for it to get better or did your LO's sleep just fix itself all of a sudden?

Also, he's now sitting/standing up in the crib. So if I leave him there to whine (like I used to do) he just stands up and works himself up. Help!
