@littlejoy: I see what you mean. It's hard to tell if that's blood. Definitely see the mucus though. Hopefully you can get it tested!!

I was ready to cut soy but my pediatrician told me to give the dairy a little more time to clear and I'm glad she did, because LO doesn't have any issue with soy. Just the dairy (still hasn't outgrown that at 7 months.) I think it would have been different if she was not gaining weight or was miserable.

I know how hard it is to worry about these things.

I'm so sorry that this is happening!

I agree with pp, cut the donor milk and major soy from your diet (keep the soy oil and soy lecithin) and if no improvement in 4 weeks, cut all the soy. Also look at packages for "natural flavor" because it is a hidden source of dairy.

My DD outgrew her mspi by 3.5 months. Hopefully your's will too! Please let me know if you have any questions, either here or on our fb group. I am currently doing mspi for DS, prophylactocally this time, so I get how hard it is. Hugs.

@Banana330: I took Dom with LO1 ... no results - my issue is LGT, so without good gland tissue, golactagougues aren't super effective. Thankfully, my supply is higher this time around.

@littlejoy: have you looked at domperidone to help supply? I was on that with DD1 and it really helped. I'm not sure how easy it is to get in the US.

@littlejoy: For supply supplements, look at Legendairy's website. They have several options and I don't believe they have soy in them, but they list the ingredients. If you need a promo code for a % off, I can give you a few to try. I started using these about a month ago and have noticed quite a difference in my supply.

@IRunForFun: Here's a pic. You're right - I don't know if it's blood for sure. Our doctor is out of town, so I'm waiting for a call back about having her diaper looked at asap.

And, it would be hard to cut out soy - beyond the "what can I eat?" part, two of my supply supplements have soy lecithin in them, and I need all of the supply help I can get.

Stuffy nose is totally a symptom of dairy intolerance. I didn't think of that.

@littlejoy: A few things. Are you 100% positive it was blood? I thought a couple of times I was seeing blood in LO's diaper but the pediatrician tested the contents and they were negative for blood. That said, when the blood finally showed up, it was very obvious that's what it was (and that diaper tested positive.) Do you still have the diaper or have you washed it? You can take it to be tested for blood.

I'd start with not using the donor milk and seeing if it clears up in another 2 to 4 weeks. Dairy can actually take up to a month to clear the system. If it doesn't clear up or gets worse then consider cutting soy. It would be a shame to cut soy if you didn't really have to, plus if you cut them both at once and the symptoms clear you have to get into the whole phasing back in to see if it was one or both ordeal. This way you can kind of avoid that.

Also, a stuffy/runny nose can be symptoms of a dairy intolerance, according to our ped.

@littlejoy: Yeah, that's true. Having blood can be concerning. Have you tried probiotics? I am guessing your LO does have an intolerance to something, but hopefully, it's not too major considering she is happy and doesn't have much for symptoms. My son did have a few specks of blood, but was otherwise fine, so I ended up not cutting out much or at least for very long. Good luck as I know how hard it can be trying to narrow down the issue.

@MrsADS: There is visible blood. :( She is happy ... gaining weight, too. I think she *might* have reflux. She makes this uncomfortable face like she's swallowing something bad - I assume it's a little acid. She's not spitting up much, and we are able to burp her.

@NorthStar: I have low supply (at least on the low end), but I do think my first letdown is a little forceful. The addition of little blood specks last night made me go to high alert. :(

Do you have an overactive letdown? I found that to be part of my issue when my son had green poops and tried to get a better foremilk/hind milk balance. He was getting too much foremilk and therefore, not enough of the fatty milk (hind). I would only feed on one side each time and that really seemed to help with the green poops.

I agree with what @catlady said, I would do it in stages and not go off everything immediately. I also would talk to your ped first before you start eliminating. We were seeing a pediatric GI by that point so our situation was a bit different, but they tested his diapers for blood (you bring in a dirty diaper and they test it). And different doctors seem to have different opinions on how much eliminating is necessary. Obviously if you're getting visible blood there's a problem. But some are okay with a little green poop, a little mucus, if baby is happy and healthy. Does your baby have any reflux or other issues? If you have to supplement and don't have dairy free breastmilk, you can try a hydrolyzed formula like Alimentum.

I would actually not cut out soy yet, and definitely not oil/lecithin. If your baby is ok with those things in your diet, it will be so much easier.

I'd do just dairy first, and wait 2 weeks. You should see results by then. If not, then try major soy. And only if that doesn't work, cut out soy oil and lecithin.

If you suspect it might be a cold, I'd wait another week and see if it goes away. I had one MSPI baby and one without, but my non-MSPI baby had terrible looking green poops for a week early on and it turned out to be just a cold.

@jape14: The only symptom she might have is a semi-stuffy nose, but that's it. And that's a stretch - I just noticed she was mouth breathing a bit.

Is there any chance she might have a cold? My 6-week-old caught one from my 3-year-old and she had about 4-5 days of green poops at the height of the cold. She actually had the green poop and then started showing cold symptoms the next day. Once it cleared up, the poop went back to normal yellow/mustardy.

I thought my daughter had a dairy/soy issue. I'm veggie and cut out dairy and soy, due to green poops. I felt like i was constantly worried about what her diaper contained. I was actually able to add back in dairy but it was more soy that was an issue. By 4-5 months she seemed to outgrow the issue and i could eat anything and continue breast feeding. I know that's not always the case but it could just be the immature system and it will eventually adjust.

I am 98% sure we've arrived in the land of MSPI. LO is 3 weeks old, and for the last 6-7 days, has had green poop. It's gotten progressively more green and mucusy. Last night, there was a little bit of visible blood. I almost feel like she's having diarrhea (but maybe all BF babies have loud poop??) - this is my first exclusively BF baby.

I've put in calls to our LC and doctor.

I'm vegan, but our milk donor isn't. I haven't needed her milk for about 4 days, so I'm hopeful I can meet LO's needs for at least 2 more weeks.

For soy, I understand I need to cut out all forms (including oil and lecithin) for a few weeks.

Let's say LO's symptoms go away after the diet changes. Should I test the donor milk first? And, how soon would she likely have a reaction.

I've been eating soy since she was born, and she did have normal yellow poop for the first two weeks (after meconium). I'm so hopeful it's the dairy (since we don't eat it), but then I'm really sad about having to find a new donor (dairy free would likely be hard).

Any advice on testing foods and MSPI, in general, would be really, really helpful!!!
