we do not swaddle at night {we co sleep}, but we do swaddle during the day, sometimes. it depends on lo's mood. sometimes it just pisses her off, but sometimes she likes it.

@Coco Bee: I googled how to double swaddle, and it looks a bit different. With the type of swaddle that we do, his arms have room to move, but they are securely tucked into the blanket. The legs have room to move as well.

I've been attempting to swaddle during naps lately, but it's not working so well. She wakes up after 30 minutes or so fighting the swaddle and screaming. Of course, when we don't swaddle for naps, she wakes up after 30 minutes or so b/c she whacks herself in the face w/ her arms. So it seems to be a lose-lose situation for us so far.

@marriedandlovingit: it actually kind of made sense - until the last part, then I got confused lol. Ever heard of the double swaddle? It sounds very similar. I usually do the traditional swaddle and then a swaddle sack over it (at 3 months he is strong and can totally break out of just one swaddle!). But today since all my Aden + Anais blankets were dirty, we did the double swaddle and put a sleepsack on him.

we have to swaddle for naps too. Last night he wet his diaper and got his sleepsack all wet, so I considered letting him sleep without his swaddle, but he is always whacking his hands near his face and the last week or so he has an obsession with chewing/sucking his fingers, then punching me with his drooly hand. He thinks it's funny, I do not. So needless to say, we keep swaddling - naps, nighttime etc.

@Nskillet: I have looked online everywhere for it, but I cannot find anything. A youtube video or pictures (which I am considering doing) would be so helpful. I will try to explain it the best I can, which probably won't make any sense but here goes....

-We use an Aden and Anais swaddle blanket. We lay it out flat and fold the top part of the blanket down a few inches...enough room for his forearms to fit into.

-Put his forearms in the fold. Right arm first, then fold the blanket over and under him. I get it pretty tight.

-Next, do the same with the left side. Forearm in the fold, then fold the blanket over.

-Next, grab the bottom of the blanket. It will look like a triangle when you are grabbing the bottom of it. Fold that upwards, then fold the top so it flaps down a couple of inches (confused yet?).

-Wrap the right side of the blanket around him loosely, then the left side around him. Tuck the left side in. Keeping the bottom part of the swaddle is important so he has room to move his legs.

I will most likely have the hubs and I take pics of this, as I am sure you all are royally confused by now. This is how it should look in the end though:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/I1uxE9HqV9UdXv0Lkc_8LXVaRUGtRp7KKUBeW7HQ73g?feat=directlink

Let me know if you have any questions!

It's a square swaddle vs the traditional diamond swaddle. I'm in the middle of typing up a 'how-to' on my laptop. On my cell right now. I will finish it here in a bit. It's hard to explain, so I may take some pics to give you a better idea.

@nskillet, google 'double swaddle.' it works great with Aden & Anais blankets!

(not sure if that's what @marriedandlovingit is referring to but it's an awesome swaddling technique!)

My son is swaddled for naps and bedtime. He was breaking out of the traditional swaddle, so his pediatrician showed us another way to swaddle, and it is working like a charm.

DS is almost 3 months and we swaddle for naps and nighttime. He stopped wanting to sleep on our chests after a few weeks! Sometimes if I can get him to nap with me and he is unswaddled he is constantly moving his arms and seems to be in a lighter sleep.
