My baby was pretty much never one to just fall asleep on her own. Unless she was in the moby, occasionally in the stroller, or being nursed to sleep, she just didn't fall asleep. So when I knew I wanted to try to put her down, I'd swaddle her before nursing bc otherwise she would wake up as soon as I put her down. Or I could hold her the whole time, which I did occasionally.
In those early days she was usually just in a short sleeves onesie in the house anyway, but I can see in 80 degrees even that could get warm in the swaddle.

And by 7 or 8 weeks I stopped unswaddling for feeds in the motn unless I could smell poo.

@abbylyn: Yes, we swaddled for all naps until recently (LO is 4 months). She had a strong Moro reflex and would wake herself up constantly without it. Have you seen the swaddle strap? That's what we used--it's great for warm temps because it only goes across the arms.

We had to swaddle for naps until we swaddle weaned. He had a strong Moro reflex and always woke himself up when we didn't swaddle.

We never swaddled for naps. At that age she would sleep anywhere and everywhere...often times in my arms!

We didn't start swaddling for naps until about 3 months. Up until then, it didn't seem to matter if she was swaddled or not. But now what we do is wait until she starts yawning/rubbing her eyes, then swaddle her and put her down awake but drowsy. Seems to work pretty well.

As far as MOTN feedings go, I keep her swaddled. By about 8 weeks or so, she was only peeing during the night, and I'd read somewhere to leave the diaper if it was just wet. That way, she doesn't wake up any more than necessary.

Hope all goes well for you! And honestly...just do what works and what feels comfortable!

My apartment is ridiculously hot - like 80 degrees - so I'm worried that adding the swaddle as a layer is too warm. But if I undress her, it will wake her up.

Follow up question - do you un-swaddle for motn feedings? To check their diaper at night? So many questions!

We had to swaddle for naps from about that age, otherwise she would startle herself awake within minutes. She was also a not so good napper so I gave her all her sleep cues- swaddle, white noise, dark room. She would usually wear whatever she already had in under the swaddle unless it would be uncomfortable, like a dress with extra fabric. We are pretty casual at home so it was all comfy.

Mamas who swaddle or use swaddle wraps - what do you do for nap time? Do you swaddle for every nap? If so, what does your LO wear under the swaddle? What's your routine?

Lucy is almost 7 weeks and we just started using the SwaddleMe wraps. She's sleeping beautifully tonight, but she has not been a good napper, so I'm wondering if it would help.
