My son was (is) also a houdini! I constantly found him in the middle of the night, or (if I was lucky!) the morning with a part of the swaddle up over his mouth and nose. We used the A&A swaddles and I actually found that they are so breathable that he could actually breathe through them. That being said, that's TERRIFYING. and I think an option like the woombi or the suggestions above are an even better solution than what we did (de-swaddled at about 3.5/4 months).

Retrospectively I wish we had tried a woombie when really little. That said at 3 mo we used the Zipadeezip and wonder why I waited on that!!

We used a woombie with LO2, he loved having his hands up but they were still secure. I highly recommend!

@sorrycharlie: FWIW we didn't swaddle him for very long after that. I regret buying that large size because after a few days of wearing it I realized he was ready to sleep unswaddled after spending 2 months mouthing his hands at night. So at close to 4 months we just dropped the swaddle and he did fine in a plain old sleep sack, also for a short time.

@sorrycharlie: We actually quit swaddling as soon as we left the hospital. We never could keep her in it. It was kind of rough, but I'm glad we did it because we never had to wean her from it. She slept with us for several weeks, but once we moved her to her crib, she slept fine without it.

@mediagirl: @avivoca: She's still so little, though :( her arms wake her up constantly.. Gah.

@spaniellove: Holy cow! Yeah, if she grows as fast as DD1 did she will need a large soon too, lol. DD1 was almost 16 lbs at her 4 month check.

@Littlebit: That is SO nice of you!! I'll take you up on it to see a fit - I'll wall you!

@sorrycharlie: Sorry, just seeing this. We had a size medium. If you want to borrow it you are totally welcome to! I can ship it out Monday. I'll just need it back whenever you are done since I know we'll want to use it for our next :) Just let me know!

@sorrycharlie: Looking at my receipts, I ordered a large 2 months later and it was probably a little big. The main reason I had to get a new one was because DH put the medium in the dryer and the neckline shrank!

@sorrycharlie: my DD2 was the worst at this! She didn't do well in the woombie, the miracle blanket that worked so well for DD1 was no match for her, and she even managed to get the sleep sack swaddle up around her face. We ended up switching to the Merlin sleep suit around 3 months, I think.

Hm, maybe try the swaddle up? We used this with my son, but we used it as a way to wean off a traditional swaddle.

No idea where to stick this!

My daughter is Houdini. And likes her hands, a lot. When swaddled - whether A+A or her swaddle sack thing, she manages to pull the fabric up toward her face no matter how tight.

Is this a sign I shouldn't bother swaddling? Smaller size? Bigger size?? Haha!
