@swedishfish: We have one and he hates it! I'm actually thinking about selling it because he hates it so much. I guess it's because his legs aren't tight enough in it? He also always manages to get his arms free.

@Pepper: what about a Halo swaddle sack? It lets you swaddle his arms still but is a regular sleep sack as well.

@lindseykaye: Yeah, I'm really afraid of overheating too. I'll use a onesie. Thanks!

@.twist.: One of these days, we'll win at infant sleeping! :)

Gah, I need to put a rush order on these woombies, haha.

we also ended up using a woombie. it's so easy and they can't break out of it, although for us it didn't help LO fall asleep any easier. we stopped using the woombie (or any swaddle) when we sleep trained so that he could learn how to suck his thumb to fall asleep.

I have the same problem. I am a sleep failure too, and I hate swaddling and I hate unswaddling.

I 3rd, 4th, 5th the woombie. I'm actually going to get another one today because l has outgrown his.

Hugs mama!

Eta: woombies are the best I've found so far for diaper changes if you need to do that. Although, I don't think you need much more convincing!!

@Pepper: We didn't use a sleep and play until she was out of the swaddle. Until then I just used a onesie since the woombie covered her from neck to toes and left nothing exposed. LO runs hot so I worried about her overheating, even though it was winter (though we live in Florida so the term "winter" is relative).

@sslm: @Bookish: @lindseykaye: Ok, I'm going to try a Woombie! Thanks for the recommendation. Do you guys use the Woombie with a sleep and play?

@lawbee11: I think I'm going to put him in a long sleeved cotton sleeper with swaddle tonight until I get a woombie. They fight the swaddle, but can't sleep without it. What gives?!

@sslm: Another woombie convert. We tried the american swaddle fold, a russian fold, combining the two into a double swaddle... so many things. Finally ordered a woombie and she slept like a dream. It was winter, so we still used a traditional swaddle using an A&A muslin blanket, topped with a woombie for a tight fit. She slept in this until she learned to roll over and we had to quit cold turkey.

@Pepper: I have no advice, just empathy. Swaddling is the bane of my existence. M seems to hate it (cries while I put it on her), but she sleeps so much better with it on. She does the same thing where she wakes up wrestling with it, and she often gets her arms out (we use the swaddlemes). We swaddle her in a short-sleeve onesie because she also runs warm, and usually she doesn't break free until right before she's about to wake up anyways so I haven't had to deal with the cold arms/hands. Could you swaddle him in a cotton long-sleeves onesie? So at least there are light-weight sleeves but no pants.

@Pepper: Does he sleep ok when he's swaddled, even when he breaks out? My LO breaks out a few times a week but stays asleep, so we put her in a light nightgown/sleep sack so that if she does break out, she's still warm.

ETA ok I just re-read that he wakes up when he breaks out. I second the woombie!

We loved the woombie bc it zipped up and she couldn't break free!

When we swaddle weaned it was rough for a few nights and then it got better, so waiting it out might be the solution :)

I hate swaddling LO anymore. We did a sleep sack and sleeper for a few nights, but he keeps himself awake when his arms are free. At the same time, when he's swaddled, he will wake up and wrestle with it! I woke up last night and he had both arms out and his hands and lower arms were freezing cold. :( I switched him to a fleece sleepsack, but he wouldn't fall back asleep til I re-swaddled him. I'm feeling like a baby sleep failure!

We use the swaddle me brand. Is there a better one out there? I always swaddle him in just a diaper because he runs warm... but his cold little exposed hands and arms are making me question my methods.
