@Mamaof2: Ooh, good idea! I might try that!

Otherwise, it'll be cold turkey like you're all recommending. Sigh. I'll just brace myself for a couple of wicked nights.

Cold turkey. We also would put her down on her belly then because she was much less likely to startle herself (she could roll and had been belly napping for... A long time by that point)

We go cold turkey. With DS, we did it at 5 months, and he had no problem transitioning. We just started two days ago with DD(6 months on Saturday). It's going much rougher, but it's getting better...slowly.

We went cold turkey too... I was really nervous bc she STTN so well but at 4 months I ditched it and it didn't interrupt her sleep at all! Good luck!'"

Is she STTN? If not swaddle both arms at bedtime but then after her 1st waking try putting her down with only 1 arm swaddle - that's how I weaned my DS!

Cold turkey! The first few sleeps suck, but they adjust pretty quickly. Good luck!

cold turkey. Sucked for a week or so but then he became a belly sleeper and things were a bit better!

@redsmarties: I would probably just go cold turkey if I were you. It'll probably suck for a few days but then she'll learn how to fall asleep unswaddled and all will be well. We did a more gradual approach and did some nap times, then all nap times, then all nighttime, but M wasn't rolling over at that point. I think because K can roll over that doing it cold turkey would be the safest approach.

Over the Xmas holidays when L was about 4.5 months I walked in one morning and she had rolled over in her swaddle. From then on I just quit cold turkey for bedtime!! I swaddled for naps for a few days then quit altogether. It was way easier than I thought. Like K, she had been swaddled every night and for every nap. I transitioned to a halo sleepsack and she she doesn't have a problem falling asleep. When I quit, she was in the middle of the 4 month sleep regression and was waking up a few times a night anyways. Now she is getting back to her 1-2 wake ups a night. Good luck! Maybe she'll surprise you and be just fine!

K is 5.5 months old, and can roll over both ways without even thinking about it. The problem is, we swaddle her for all naps and bedtime, and its the only way she can fall asleep.
I know we need to break the swaddle habit, because she's getting close to rolling herself over while swaddled.
We've tried keeping her arms out (or even just one arm), and she cannot fall asleep - keeps waking herself up.

Any tips? How did you get rid of the swaddle?
