It took us about 2.5 weeks to totally wean. We did one arm out then both arms out with a couple times in between where we backtracked. So hard!

@JoJoGirl: Maybe try a hand out during nap time? Kind of ease her into it. My biggest fear was that J would start rolling while swaddled when she started rolling all over the place but she never did....I was afraid to deal with that & weaning all at once so we tried a few naps without a swaddle first.

@blackbird: hahah oh!! She did in her RNP, yes- by pushing her feet off the bottom, which is why we had to get her in the crib. She's never rolled from laying flat. :) MOAR wine! :)

@emg86: yes.. She's never slept without it.

We swaddled wean when she would scoot so much that her feet would hit the end of her cosleeper. If she's still sleeping well in it & not rolling or waking herself up, I would let her stay in it a bit longer. Is she swaddled for naps?

I could've sworn she was rolling in it in her RnP and she was face down! Okay now I'm making shit up lol. No more HB after half a bottle of wine

DD is 9 months and we still swaddle her arms using the miracle blanket! She gets out of it pretty easily but I think it helps her fall asleep faster when she can't move her arms.

We didn't wean until 6 months when C started rolling. If she's still doing well with it, just keep doing it.

@JoJoGirl: if she isn't rolling and she sleeps better swaddled then keep doing it. A good nights sleep is more important.

My LO didn't like being swaddled to begin with so I just stopped swaddling early on. Every baby is different so if swaddling works for you guys, stick with it! Some people start by just having one arm out. My baby would always put her arms out and break out of the swaddle. She also found her hand/fingers early on and would suck on it to self soothe. I think that's partly why we stopped swaddling. She always wants to suck on her hand and will go back to sleep at night. Good luck!

@JoJoGirl: No advice, but totally know what you're going through. My son didn't want to lose the swaddle until really late in the game. And we tried weaning for months. He wasn't ok without it until he was good and ready. And then suddenly he didn't need it anymore.

Her baby is rolling :(

Too bad it's not safe to swaddle your baby and then Velcro them to the crib bed sheet so they can't roll :)

I'm sorry!! I agree with @Mrs Hedgehog that if it's working for you stick with it! Lots if babies use it well past 6 months. We only stopped because it wasn't working for us.

We tried weaning A from the swaddle last night after a bunch of people said their babies sleep better without it. She's 4.5 months old.

We put her down with both arms out of the swaddle secured around her chest. She took longer than usual to go down; a lot more fussing than normal (we put her down awake), but she fell asleep within 30 mins and I thought we'd be dealing with a few wakeups for the first night.

Well, she woke up 2.5 hrs later SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER. We could not get her to calm down for the life of us. After 45 mins, we put her in the Merlin and that just made it worse. She practically destroyed the thing trying to get out of it. We gave up and re-swaddled her (she was completely melting down at that point), and 15 mins later she was asleep.

HELP! Has anyone had that much trouble night 1? Should we try 1 arm out? I don't think she likes the Merlin.. I think she's just too small for it. She's very tall but only 12.5 lbs so I don't think it "cuddles" her like it would a chunkier baby.

How did you guys wean??
