@Bookish: 3 wakeups over the course of 12 hours, so she did pretty well! She's been waking up 2 times a night even while swaddled, so it wasn't much worse than normal. And all three times I nursed her and she went back down fine. I am so glad to be done with the swaddle!

The first night I put B in her crib I decided to not swaddle her. She woke up once that night and then went back to STTN the next night. I think it was easier for her as she would usually kick herself out of her swaddle pretty quick anyways. Hopefully your transition is easy as well as yours breaks out of the swaddle as well. Good Luck!

How long can they wear a Zipadeezip? Can I start K on one now if I can get 2 hr naps?! :P

The first 2 nights of swaddle weaning were ROUGH! I think she woke up at least every hour the first night. I blew up the aerobed for the 2nd night. By the 3rd night, I think she woke up about 5 times? It was totally fine near a week.

E did well in her zipadeezip for naps so I thought it would be easy at night to transition but we had 2 night time wakes ups per night for about...a week? Then went back down to one at 4am for a looong time.

My dd didn't really have any issue with extra wake ups. I did a one armed swaddle for like 3 weeks, then a no-armed swaddle, then just moved her to the wearable blankets. I always nursed back to sleep but often she's go back to sleep sucking her thumb (which is why I tried the one armed swaddle in the first place) good luck!

My LO and several of the other late spring/early summer babies (I think @TLCbaby was one) slept better after swaddle weaning! She sounds like she will do great since she's already going without at naptime. Good luck!

@Mrs Hedgehog: M only ever breaks her left arm out, too! I sucked my thumb for a long time and it was always my left thumb. I am right-handed so I sucked the left thumb so that I could still do stuff with my right hand :) I really really hope this leads to her STTN!

@Mrs. Taco: yes I hope our experience is similar! I have been so hesitant to do it even though I don't think she even likes the swaddle anymore, but I've got to bite the bullet sooner or later.

We used the swaddle halo sacks and started with one arm out, then both, then to a regular sleep sack. Honestly? I was anticipating this terrible transition, but her night sleep didn't change at all! I think she was more than ready. Hopefully you experience the same

LO is almost 6 months now and doesn't sleep with anything unless its cold out and then I use a sleep sack. I did do a traditional A+A swaddle a few times when we went out of town and she needed some extra comfort to get to sleep in a unfamiliar place.

For Kaia she really decided when it was time to swaddle wean. She kept breaking her left arm (only ever her left... we might have a lefty here!) out of the swaddle to suck on her hand (now her thumb. Ugh... I was trying to avoid a thumb sucker. Oh well.) So we unswaddled one arm for her to sleep at night for a couple nights then tried both arms. She now STTN!!! (If only my boobs would do the same...)

Maybe try one arm then both and see how it goes? Once we let her have her hands she slept through the night because she was able to pacify herself back to sleep. So, for her it was less about the feeling of the swaddle and more about access to her hands to suck on. Infact, the second we gave her her hands she started STTN and I wish we had tried it sooner!

We didn't have any extra wake ups transitioning from the swaddle to Zipadee zip. I was so hesitant but it went well. During his normal wake up I nursed him back to sleep as normal.

she self-swaddle weaned and I was not ready! it was awful. she slept terribly for a loooong..loooooong...long time. obviously at some point it switched from her arms waking her, to other things, but yeah.

I just nursed her back to sleep. we never sleep trained, and she gradually dropped wakeups until she started STTN at 11.5 months on her own (630-6)

@lawbee11: the good part, I guess, was that it was early in the night so we were still awake, but it was rough. Since she's already fine for naps I bet it will be better.

@Foodnerd81: She's been busting out of her swaddle every night anyways and sleeping fine that way, so I am hoping it'll be a relatively smooth transition. If she wakes every 40 minutes I may cry!

We swaddle weaned around 4 months - we switched from using the Miracle Blanket to sleep sacks. The first couple nights were rough. He was waking up every 1-2 hours when he was normally doing much longer stretches at that point. I think by the third night, he was doing better and getting used to not having his arms so close to him.

We went from the Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit to the halo sleep sack with the swaddle arms around her chest, not her arms. She woke up every 40 minutes or so for the first 3 hours, I want to say. It's a little bit of a blur, but I think we went in and rocked her or nursed her back to sleep each time, since we weren't doing CIO at the time. But this was when her sleep was just so bad that the waking up every 40 minutes wasn't even so far from the norm anyway. Once she got used to it, her sleep did improve-- she loves sucking on her fingers and having her arms out made it possible.

If she is doing ok with naps, I bet she will be better than you expect for bedtime.

When you swaddle weaned at night, how many wakeups did your LO have and how long did the bad nights last? We've had M in the Zipadee-Zip for naps for about a week (previously she was swaddled for all naps). It's gone really well--if anything her naps have improved. She even took a 2-hour nap in it this afternoon (an amazing accomplishment for a serial 40-minute napper).

So we're thinking tonight should be the night where we transition to the Zipadee-Zip for nighttime sleep, too. Just not sure what to expect. Maybe it'll go well because she's doing fine with it during the day? Or should I still expect a lot of wakeups and some rough nights?

Also, what did you do when your LO woke up? CIO? Nurse back to sleep every time?
