We moved from the swaddle to the woombie at this age- you start with the arms in and slowly wean their arms out while the rest of the body is tight.

And we would put like 5+ pacifiers in the crib so he could grab one easily. Sometimes he would cry when he woke up and lost one but if we went in quietly in the dark and popped it back in he would settle back down.

@gingerbebe: Thanks for the ideas! We haven't tried a Wubbanub - that might be helpful for her, I think she does try to get the paci back in, but rarely succeeds. She might actually like a lovey - I think we waited a bit longer before giving one to DS, but she might find it helpful now.

Have you tried a Wubbanub or those beanie babies you can stick any brand paci on? They can more easily shove those back into their mouths. At that age we also gave my boys loveys. DS1 started chewing and sucking on his; DS2 decided he liked sucking on his hands better.

Our 5-month old was a pretty decent sleeper - she would go to bed at 9 on her own (no pacifier), fully swaddled in a miracle blanket, and wake up between 4:30 and 6, then go to sleep again with a pacifier (sometimes needing the pacifier every 30 minutes or so). I'd get her up for the day around 7 or so.

Her rolling has gotten very good, so we are swaddle weaning. Now that her arms are free, she pulls out the paci. The only thing that gets her back to sleep now when she wakes in the early morning is holding her arms down so she doesn't pull the paci out, but this isn't sustainable.

Has anyone solved this problem? The first night we let her cry a bit to see if she would self-soothe, and she got very worked up and didn't manage to self-soothe at all. Do we need to do full-on sleep training with a sleep sack and no paci? I'm open to anything that will work!
