@mamajaja: We didn't sleep train. We still nurse/give her a bottle to go to sleep. If she wakes up I just nurse her back down, but that's rare. She dropped wakings on her own. FWIW, my LO was also very squirmy and very loud... still is. All over the bed all the time. But, she's asleep. If she sleeps through all of her movement, I don't see a need to stop swaddling. Right before LO started rolling, she would roll and sleep on her side in the swaddle (we used a Woombie). I have friends who swaddled their kids until 10 months or so.

Remember that things that time. It's a learning process for her. If she's not rolling it might take several nights for her to adjust. For a couple of weeks LO would only roll from tummy to back while she was asleep, then she would freak out. So for a while we had to go in her room to roll her back over. Now it doesn't bother her. They learn eventually.

@mamajaja: The sleep sack was a good transition for us, since we went from the A&A swaddles to an A&A sleep sack- maybe it was all in my head, but it felt like the fabric and a similar 'feeling' of being wrapped without being so constrained. I don't think she could get stuck in a sleep sack since her arms are out.
Prettybaby does gymnastics all over the place in her crib too, moves from end to end, spins all over the place. She's quite the little monkey these days.

@prettylizy: Well, she slept ok for her naps without the swaddle, and the only reason we decided to start weaning was because her night sleep has gotten progressively worse and worse in the swaddle, and she's been breaking out of them almost every night. She's also been grunting and squirming during her sleep as if she's trying to get out. I'll usually find her body either scooted to the top of the crib or her whole body shifted 90 degrees to the right by morning (if not sooner). She's also been trying to roll while swaddled, and the one time i swaddled her with one arm out she roller over to her tummy and got stuck. =/

I wonder if using a sleep sack will help? We just put her in fleece PJs last night. I'm just paranoid that she'll get stuck in a sleep sack as well since she can't really roll from tummy to back yet.

Thanks!!

@mamajaja: We didn't sleep train. At 4 months she started with her sleep regression and it was killing me. We spent a lot of time co-bedding and dream feeding her. Basically the second she made a peep I'd pop my boob in her mouth to shut her up (*guilt face*lol). As the month rolled on, I noticed in the morning her swaddle would start to pop open from me pulling her in to nurse all the time and she would flop onto her belly and fall to sleep with her arms out. When we got home from our family vacation I just put her in the sleep sack and to bed on her tummy and she slept like a champ.

Sounds to me like your LO isn't ready to sleep without a swaddle, if it's going to make everyones life and sleep better, I wouldn't try to stop it until their ready.

@c.sassy: @prettylizy: was your LOs already sleep trained? Last night was a disaster when we tried to put our LO down with no swaddle :( She would roll over and wake up, no matter how sleepy we got her. Once she stayed on her back, but then woke up when she rolled over. After over 4 hours of struggling we finally got her to sleep, but swaddled. Poor thing I know she's crazy tired.

When we stopped swaddling, lo was able to find her thumb because we weren't keeping it tied up anymore. She started sucking her thumb and slept 12 hours straight. She was 2 1/2 months.

When she was just over 5 months she was showing signs of being ready to swaddle wean. We went cold turkey into a sleep sack and she became a belly sleeper.

We went cold turkey, and her nighttime sleep improved immediately. DD never napped for more than 30 minutes -- swaddle or no, so that didn't change anything either.

We never swaddled for naps, but we went cold turkey on the swaddle for nighttime. We sometimes used the sleep sack and sometimes not. Her sleep wasn't affected very much once we figured out that she liked to start out the night on her tummy.

I swaddle weaned and sleep trained at the same time. I started at night and continued for naps the next day. After he fell asleep at night and stayed asleep, he slept through the night until next morning. His naps were short 30-40 minute naps for about 4 or 5 days and then gradually lengthened.

@mamajaja: the first few nights, he would wake up from his night sleep in the very beginning (like right after we put him down). It was almost like he couldn't get into deep sleep. We would lay him down, he would roll on his tummy and wake up an hour later. I went in and shushed him back to sleep or picked him up and rocked him. After a few nights, he slept normally. He actually slept BETTER because he loved sleeping on his tummy. I say give it a few nights and see how it goes because your LO might actually really like sleeping on her tummy. She's probably not used to it yet. My DD doesn't like the swaddle so we stopped swaddling her at around 1 month and she sleeps great. She already rolls from back to tummy. She LOVES tummy sleep.

Oh, forgot to mention....we swaddle weaned naps and night at the same time.

The exact same thing happened with my son. The second we swaddle weaned him, he started rolling onto his tummy for naps. And his naps became really short. It lasted like that until he was able to roll back onto his back (maybe a few weeks later?). And then his naps became long again.

So we decided to go cold turkey with the swaddle, and LO has surprisingly gone down pretty well for her naps today! Granted we had to rock her until she was asleep, but all 3 times she immediately rolled over to her tummy when we placed her in the crib and went to sleep. Only thing is, her naps have only been 30 mins, so she's not able to sleep past one cycle. So I have a couple questions for those of you who have weaned from the swaddle cold turkey:

1) How did LO respond to sleeping without swaddle the first couple days?
2) Did you go cold turkey for naps and night sleep? I'm a little worried how she'll do at night without a swaddle since she hasn't been able to sleep past 30 mins.

TIA!!!
