@Alivoo01: Mine just turned 5 months and we are still swaddling for naps & night. Tried once to swaddle wean bc he seemed "too old" for that and it was quite a failure. He hasn't rolled in the swaddle yet and doesn't fight if it is wrapped tightly so I am going to stick with it as long as it works! My relatives and some friends have acted shocked that we still swaddle... But it has been a sanity-saver for us!

Another rec for the Merlin sleep suit! We actually got better sleep from it than in the swaddle!

@Alivoo01: They don't grow out of the Moro reflex until around six months. Some babies make the transition out of the swaddle earlier than that without any issues. Others (mine) basically won't sleep without it. Just depends on your baby :)

@tlcbaby: Ah. I see. Guess I'll keep swaddling then? Didn't know if it was something I needed to do ASAP bc my parents think swaddling is dumb and should let him sleep "freely". Sigh. Wonder if they grow out of the twitching/flailing phase as they get older so that swaddling isn't necessary and he can just sleep unswaddled one day. Too much to ask/a miracle???

@Smurfette: DS isn't rolling yet, but if he isn't swaddled tightly, his hands get caught in the neck part of the swaddle and gets upset.

We have the Merlin sleepsuit, but have only tried it once, as I found it really difficult to nurse her in the MOTN when she was wearing it.

Anyhow, I recently heard about and ordered a new-to-me product. I haven't tried it yet, but I've read good things. Just something else to consider: http://zipadeezip.com

Also, we haven't swaddle weaned yet and DD is nearly 6 months. She has never rolled in the swaddle. I think she's ready to be out of it, but am just waiting for the above to arrive to give it a try!

@tlcbaby: Thanks. DS is 3 months and his arms flail like crazy and his legs move up and down all the time so he has to be swaddled. Didn't know when I needed to start swaddle weaning, and if it's even possible! ha

So far Nap #2 is a success! I wrapped his sleep sack wings really tight around his chest, rocked him to almost asleep and laid him down. He has been out almost 20 minutes. Our first nap only lasted 10 minutes so we are already doing better. I have hope now!

Try Merlin's magic sleep suit. We went from swaddles to the halo sleep sack and she wasn't really liking it (and was up every 2 hours). We've only used the magic sleep suit for two nights, but it is much better. She sleeps for 5-6 hour stretches and she has gotten herself back to sleep. I found that she would try to get out of the halo sleepsacks.

Thanks :) He doesn't seem to like one arm out, he wants them both, but then when he has them he can't calm down! Maybe we should try night first, I thought naps would be easier for some reason.

R is 16 weeks and we have successfully swaddle weaned for nights....naps are still a challenge. From what I've read, it's easier to start with night time....

We began with one arm out (2 nights) then both arms out (2 nights) and now just a sleep sack. Honestly, it went WAY easier than I built it up to be.

I have tried not to swaddle for naps and she basically goes without a nap. I figure I can wait on that one since she sleeps in the swing (yeah, another thing I need to wean) for naps.

Good luck!!!!!

What about the Merlin's magic sleep suit? I'm planning to get that for c when we transition from the swaddle. I know it's an extra swaddle type product but it seems like a good transition.

I 2nd the Halo swaddle and just swaddle the arms out. But they still get the tightness on their chest. I think it really helped R transition. Granted her sleep was totally crap at that point anyway. Then we slowly loosen the tightness and she moved to a sleep sack no problem.

Can you swaddle with one arm out? We swaddle weaned S and we started this way. Each night, we switched which arm was out until he started to get used to an arm flailing around...then we did both arms out and he was far better!

Lots of luck!

We are still doing the Halo swaddle sleep sacks, but we just swaddle C's chest and not arms. He seems to do better with that than nothing at all. We also caved and gave him a lovey. He rubs it on his face until he falls asleep, then i slip it away. I do not like 4 month old sleep!

OMG I am freaking out! A doesn't like being swaddled anymore, he just fights and fights to get his arms out and if I don't get it super, super tight he gets out and I have to redo it until he falls asleep.

The problem is that he doesn't seem ready not to be swaddled, either. I successfully got him to sleep by rocking him in the rocking chair in his sleep sack with arms out, but as soon as I laid him down he was awake. Now he has been crying for 20 minutes. He will almost fall asleep and then, boom...screaming.

I really have no plan for how to go about this. I don't want to buy another swaddle product, I really want to just try and transition him, but I am freaking out that the transition is going to be too much for me to handle (lots of stress, no sleep, and getting no school work done).

Is it worth trying for a few days to see if he improves and reassess if it doesn't seem to be working? Should I just try naps first and then move on to night sleep after he seems better with it? Help!
