@Mrsbells: The research that all the news sources are incompletely quoting just says that if you swaddle, do it properly and only place baby on her back. Swaddling and allowing a baby to sleep on side or tummy is associated with SIDS.
Here's an article to share with your DH:

My hospital no longer fully swaddles babies. Arms out and free lets them easily startle themselves and prevents a deep sleep associated with SIDS.

@pastemoo: my hospital said the same. They said if you do swaddle, not to restrict the arms. I did not click on the article, but They said that the Apa was going to release this as an official endorsement soon.

@Mrsbells: My hospital said this and they no longer give a blanket to take home for swaddling, now they give a sleep sac. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

If you read the study it basically says that swaddling increases SIDS when babies are put on their back or side to sleep or when they are old enough to roll over. But if their on their back and not mobile there isn't a greater risk by swaddling.

Agreed, a really poorly released article that dangerously claims swaddling increases SIDS. There was a lot more to the study (ex- some people were putting their babies on their STOMACHS swaddled. Wow.) Read a few articles in depth and I think you'll feel better!

No. This is why I hate most mainstream science coverage. They took it completely out of context and scared the day lights out of everyone for no reason. http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/05/19/478556361/does-swaddling-a-baby-boost-risk-of-sids

I haven't heard this and swaddles my son until he could roll over. I'd ask the pediatrician before believing the news.

DH mentioned how he saw this on the news and it really concerned me. I wonder how accurate that finding is. I was thinking of getting a wombie for LO# 2 but now I'm second guessing myself
