I disnt have that much stuff in newborn size so we borrowed pants from our neighbor. I usual have her in a onesie and pants. That's enough outfit for me. I have some really cute 0-3 stuff that I'm looking forward to putting her in. She's only swaddled at night but covered in a blanket the rest of the time.

Our LO hates being swaddled, so we work through our (very small) rotation of footed sleepers (we have 2), onesies with babylegs and sucks, or kimono shirts with long-sleeve sleep sacks. He sleeps in whatever he wore for the day, unless it gets messy.

@rachiecakes: duuuuh! Do you blame him?

E was swaddled for all naps and nighttime sleep...But he was dressed in between because his dad & I were constantly snapping pictures. Plus, guests always just showed up!

About the first week was just onesies and a swaddle. After that the swaddle was just for sleeping. She wore just a onesie and some pants after that.

LO was in the hospital for her first 3 weeks, so she was swaddled 90% of the time. Outfits came in handy when we had to go to the doctor's office so she wouldn't be cold (October in CA). She only wore about 70% of her newborn clothes, but she didn't have very much.

She had a lot of 0-3 mo. outfits that I'm sadly packing away.. I think she wore about 90% of them.

Mine hated being swaddled so he slept in a long- sleeved fleece sleep sack + diaper. During the day he usually wore just a onesie or a onesie + leggings. He was born in the summer, though, and runs hot like me.

We only swaddled our little guy at night, and even then he was a hot baby, so when swaddled he couldn't be dressed too much, and even during the day we had to be careful with that he wore. All babies are different!

Swaddling made my baby ragey mad; so we couldn't swaddle. She lived in onesies and sleeping gowns; I had no experience with newborns and was too scared of her wobbly neck to mess around with real outfits. I only liked dressing her in clothes I could put on feet first! Haha

@anonysquire: anything that resembled mini sized versions of ppl clothes. the best DS would be in was a onesie+pants+socks. Most of the time day or night he was in a sleeper. or onesie+swaddle.

We only swaddled for naps and night, and if he was being overly fussy. Otherwise he lived in onesies all summer (he was born in June and we live in MA). Once he could finally fit in 0-3 shorts, he would wear those over a onesie as they were one more layer to protect against diaper blowouts! If we had a winter baby, he would probably lived in footed pjs.

@anonysquire: And even then, I think newborn and 0-3 "outfits" should still be something soft & comfy for the baby. Like I have a couple of cute 2-piece pajamas or soft top & leggings kind of stuff. I wouldn't want to put a NB in anything stiff or complicated - no matter how cute.

I'd want just a couple of cute outfits for when people come over to see the baby. :)

So if newborns are mostly swaddled in a little onesie, do you even need newborn outfits? It seems like tiny babies get cold if they are not swaddled so do they even get to show off cute outfits? Just wondering how long the swaddling onesie stage lasts?
