@magnolia: I hope things go well. Please update when you can. My girl has LM. Its proven to be mild and we haven't done anything about it. Why did you have to have the study? What your baby having some other problems or is it the reflux that's the problem? My girl is now 17 months and has started to spit up food a bit. So totally reflux of some kind. I'll probably call her doctor this week. Ugh.

@HappyBaker: thanks! She is used to taking reflux meds from the syringe so hopefully that helps.

DS had three while overcoming vocal cord paralysis. I would question about not feeding after 6am unless your appointment is super early. It is generally to ensure that the kid is hungry enough during the study, but being over hungry is a problem too!

My son had a modified barium swallow around 15 months and it actually was very difficult for him. He hated the taste of the barium and he also had to be strapped down in a seat which he HATED. We didn’t get a very good recording bc he was crying so much. Hopefully since your LO is a lot younger, it’ll be easier!! This is similar to the set up we had:

@magnolia: definitely agree to bring whatever type of bottle she’s most used to, possibly an extra empty one as well. My son had one at 9 months and they tried giving the solution to him via syringe but his issue was he couldn’t swallow from anything not a bottle so we ended up putting it in an empty bottle and giving it to him that way. It was a quick test though!

@magnolia: my oldest son had a couple. They add something to the liquid and are able to watch it on the X-ray. It doesn’t hurt at all and I was able to watch. The first time he was a newborn in NICU and the second he was maybe around 9 or 10 months old?

ETA he’s 5.5 now so it’s been a while but I’m happy to answer any questions I can!

Haven't had it done, but the surgeon my desk mate works for orders them fairly often. It seems like even the anxious panicky patients don't even mind them though... So that's good

My almost six month old has laryngomalacia and silent reflux. .We had a ENT appointment this week and he recommended a swallow study and a GI visit

Any experience with the swallow study? All they really told me was not to feed her before 6am.
