@lawbee11: I definitely would check on it, just in case. Swelling was the only symptom of PIH/Pre-E that I could tell. One day at work I noticed that my feet had blown up by 10am at my desk. I called my OB and she had me come up and my BP was through the roof! (I normally have low blood pressure, never felt dizzy, sick, etc.) From then on they payed very close attention to my BP. I was hospitalized twice (once overnight) before being induced at 40w 1d.
You can always go to a pharmacy with a BP machine and check for yourself. I did that a couple of times.

I had a ton of swelling, but whenever I asked my doctor about it, it was normal.
I'm guessing you're down to weekly appointments now? I would ask at your next appt, and in the meantime test your bp at the drugstore.

@lawbee11: I'm in Texas too, and I was incredibly swollen at the end. Like now that she's out, my ankles are half their size. It was horrible. My bp was fine, so they weren't too worried, but I did come down with dehydration, so get tons of fluids!

Sorry you are so swollen, and definitely get your bp checked if it'll help your peace of mind. Texas summers just suck for pregnancy :(

@Cherrybee: I don't have any in my hands or face (my wedding rings still fit), so I guess that's a good sign!

I had it on one side worse than the other, so I went to see my OB. He recommended compression stockings and sitting with my feet elevated as much as possible.

One of the ladies asked this at my antenatal class last night. Her feet and ankles were terrifying - like someone had blown up a surgical glove and stuck it on the end of a tree trunk!! Poor girl! The midwife asked if she had swelling elsewhere - particularly her hands and face. If your hands and face are very swollen too you might want to call your care provider and get checked out. This girl only had swelling in her feet and the midwife said in that case it's the sign of a healthy pregnancy and not to worry... and her swelling was baaaad.

@lawbee11: that sounds like a good plan. Some different signs of BP problems are headache and dizziness. I am hoping all is well it is just the rotten hot weather! Keep your feet up momma.

@MrsRcCar: My BP has been really good, but it's been a week and a half since my last appointment (I have one Friday morning). I think I am going to go to the drugstore after work and take it at one of those machines just for peace of mind.

I never really had swelling but I would call and talk to your doctor. How have your blood pressures been?

I woke up swollen and it just got worse during the day. It's usually a cause for concern when it happens all of a sudden or it's only on one side.

Go in and get you BP monitored if you're concerned, thats what I did. Mine turned out to just be swelling.

I think I am just being paranoid, but the swelling in my legs/feet has been SO bad lately. I've had a super easy pregnancy up until this point--I've felt great, continued to exercise, I am still sleeping really well, etc. But the swelling is just getting worse and I am starting to worry.

Granted, I am almost 36w pregnant in the Texas heat so I know that could definitely be a contributing factor, but I have a desk job, so it's not like I am on my feet all day. I drink tons of water (80+ oz/day), keep my feet propped up at work, get foot massages--none of it seems to help.

At our childbirth prep class on Saturday the nurse that was teaching it said it's normal to have swollen legs/feet at the end of the day, but if you wake up with swelling then that is cause for concern. For the past few days I have definitely woken up with my feet/ankles already swollen, and then it just gets worse throughout the day.

Did anyone else have a similar experience with swelling? I just don't know if this is totally normal or if I should be concerned.
