@Foodnerd81: sounds like it went great! Yeah DS does stand by himself in the shower, no way I could hold him and shower whilst pregnant! I wouldn't worry about the shower if it's making things harder 😊

I always would go but DH would get in with her. It was their thing, swim lessons. Then after I would take her to get dressed while he did his own thing and we would met by the door.

I go with my suit on under my clothes. I strip DS down and get him in his suit then quickly whip my clothes off.
After I just hold him in the shower quick and rinse off. Don't wash his hair or use soap and then just make sure we scrub him good that night.

I quickly get him dressed while I freeze to death and then change in a change room and being him with me, but he usually escapes! It's not the best but it works haha. My friend brings a towel and tells her kids they have to stand on it and they do. They were just 3 and about 19 months the first time I saw her do it.
My son is almost 19 months and no way he would listen to me. Lol. Good luck! Maybe if you don't go at all it will be better? Read in the car? Go shopping?

Edit: just saw your update. Glad it went well! As I mentioned we don't use the shower much afterwords either.

So update- I went in with her today and she actually did great! No crying and she participated more.

@jmarionsmith: last week I tried getting her ready then "leaving" (I hid on the other side). She was fine when I walked away but cried through the whole lesson.

I think it's a combo of her being more comfortable with me and of Dh pushing her too much- the point is to make her comfortable in the water and I feel like sometimes he tries too hard to get her to do things she is uncomfortable with(like putting her face in the water and blowing bubbles). Sigh.

Also we attempted a quick shower after and she was having none of it so we just dried off and got dressed, full bath tonight.

We just got home from swim! I always go in with DS (3) while DH sits out with DD (1). (Sometimes he just stays home with her, but they both enjoy watching.) DS listens to me better and would whine the entire time if DH did it so it's just easier for me to get in each time. Could you just not go? I feel like if she didn't see you she wouldn't want you as bad?

I've literally never even thought of rinsing either of us off. Although it's right before DD's first nap so we are always in a big hurry to get home. What we do is run in the locker room, I strip him, quick dry with a towel and get him dressed. Then we go to a stall so I can dry off and throw my clothes on and we are out the door! Takes 10 minutes top!

And he just gets a bath that night

I always took Xander. Hubs stayed home with Logan. We usually would just dry off and change into regular clothes after and then have a bath that night.

@oliviaoblivia: yes exactly! I want them to have one on one fun time which would be good for everyone. When it was nice they did bike rides just the two of them and got ice cream at the end and I got to stay home and rest, but now it's too cold.

@Bubbles: that is so smart to have a pnp in the changing room! She's 2 and easily distracted with mirrors so when we've done family swim at a local pool I had her go talk to herself in the mirror while I got dressed. :) But I don't think she will stand by herself in the shower and holding her and washing her and her hair while 7 months pregnant isn't super fun. I did it last time at the gym, but we had time, not up against nap.

@Foodnerd81: swim right before nap is tough! Could they go to breakfast together before? Just thinking of ways you don't have to go☺
It'll be really helpful when #2 arrives if you don't have to go and it'll be good for C to get some one on one attention.

When we went in with her at 13 months, we switched off because we could. Sometimes we both did it. We all just rinsed off in the family shower and used the soap there because I'm lazy and she didn't have any hair really. She could also walk herself and I wasn't pregnant. Changed in the bathroom because we had to put a diaper on her. The next year she went in by herself with the instructor and I just made sure to wear sandals so I could still stand in the shower area to get her rinsed off and then change her in the stall.

For us it's always me who goes in as our lessons are on a Friday. We've been going since 4 months so I am more slick at it now, it was hard logistically at first. We get straight into the shower after and wash both of us. DS has sensitive skin so I like to rinse off the chlorine, but I'd skip this step if it was too much hassle. The showers are cubicles so it's easy to keep him contained. Then we go get dressed, I dress him while I am in a towel (slightly chilly!), and then our pool has a p&p in the changing room that I put him in while I dress myself. If it didn't have that I think I'd go for a cubicle to stop him running round all over the slippery floor!

@oliviaoblivia: the other problem is it's right before nap time so no, he can't do anything with her. I have to sit in the back and keep her awake the whole way home as it is.

@Astro Bee: I haven't even rinsed her off yet since I haven't been wet- Dh dries himself off while I dry and change the toddler. But if I go in the pool I'll be wet and in a bathing already anyway.

Not a toddler, but the same principles would apply. I usually go into the pool with our 6-month old. DH has gone once. We usually rinse off in the shower together, although we don't shampoo, etc. We come home, have supper, and give LO a bath. After he is in bed, I/he would have our shower.

We did private lessons so she went in the pool with the instructor. The first two classes DH went with them and then I went but sat to the side.

We have one pool half a block away so we'd just run home after. For her winter pool, they have a family change room so DH takes her while baby sister and I chill at home. They rinse off there and get a snack before coming home.
Is there a way your DH can take a little more time and try something she likes afterwards to make it a special activity for them?

Hope she warms up to them soon!

When you do toddler swim lessons at an indoor pool (like a Y or whatever), do both parents attend? Do you switch who goes in the water with LO or always the same parent? Do you shower LO off after or just change and do bath that night? Do YOU or SO shower?

We are three lessons in and I still don't feel like we have a handle on it. And so far not getting better- she cried through the whole lesson last week. I'm going to try going in instead of dh today, since she has a huge mommy preference, but I'm annoyed because I wanted it to be a little break for me, but if she enjoys it more I guess it's worth getting my 7 month pregnant self into the pool.
