No life preserver. For the lake, she had an infant life jacket that if she fell out, it makes them go upright with her face out of the water. If we go into the big pool, I just hold him. I hear great reviews for the puddle jumper but my little guy is only 24 pounds (he is 15 months) and the puddle jumpers I have seen are recommended for 30 pounds and above. </p>
