@looch: That makes sense!

@FaithFertility: @cmomma17: Thanks! He ended up not needing stitches - just glue. He has to keep it dry for 5 days, so no swimming lessons tomorrow, but he can go next week.

Hope Xander is okay! When my stepson needed stitches on his forehead 2 summers ago the doctor said no pool for one week.

I would skip it, at least for the first week. I've worked at a pool before, they usually keep the chlorine levels really high and I would be worried about irritation.

I'd swim in my private pool, though, we use the minimum amount of chemicals and aeration.

@mediagirl: Interesting!

@BabyBoecksMom: Thanks. It's a pool at the YMCA, so I will probably ask them their opinion too, regardless of what the doctor says. I just hope he doesn't have to miss too many lessons since he's been looking forward to them for a while now.

Sorry to hear he got hurt - hopefully it won't require stitches.

I think it depends on the pool (private pool might be more closely monitored/chlorinated, etc).... but I would shy away from submerging it it for a week or so.

Hmmm. Not sure about stitches but when my dermatologist was talking to me about cutting a few moles off, she mentioned that chlorine can help the area heal faster so feel free to swim...

@Dr. Pepper: That's good to know, thanks!

@MrsRcCar: Thanks! I got the impression it was a fairly small cut, but I don't actually know.

After my son's surgery in June the doctor said no swimming for 2 weeks. The outer layer of stiches had dissolved after 1 week (6 days actually). But we didn't have a problem because my son is scared to death of pools!

It might be different for normal stitches since my kids were on a surgical incision site..... best to ask the doc to who does them.

Can you go swimming in a chlorinated pool after getting stitches? Just got a call from daycare that Xander got a cut that will most likely require stitches. He is supposed to start swimming lessons on Saturday. Anyone know the rules?

My husband will be asking the doctor when he gets the stitches, but figured I'd ask here anyway.
