@Foodnerd81: @looch: yep, we have lots of deer and were specifically told to avoid mulch bc of the ticks. We have pea gravel which I love. I would have been fine with just grass, but out grass dies if you look at it wrong, so there was no way it would withstand all that foot traffic.

To the OP - we have a gorilla brand set. We didn’t get it from Costco bc but they definitely sold a similar one at the time we were looking so I would have. Also, we hired a handyman to assemble it. Money well spent!

@lawbee11: That's really cute. I like that it has the playhouse on the top and bottom!

@Foodnerd81: It's my understanding (from a friend that has Lyme disease and is really up on the research) that tics like mulch. You can use the rubber mulch, but I have found that we've done fine with the grass underneath it.

We have deer that come right into our yard, my son once saw a fawn in the play structure, in the sandbox area that we use to plant flowers.

@LemonJack: we are looking to get one next summer as well so reading along.

@looch: ticks are a big deal here. So you are saying mulch is really bad for them? I guess that’s why a lot of people have the pea gravel stuff instead? I never even thought of that. Some of the playgrounds are all mulch... and my town is definitely one of the really high prevalence of ticks.

@looch: @Mrs D: That's super helpful! I was eyeing up a set at Costco last year, but wasn't sure about the quality. It's good to hear people like them.

Also, I didn't know that about ticks and mulch...we'll have to skip the mulch too.

We have a set by Gorilla, that we purchased via Costco. It came in 3 boxes and the set up took a few hours in the morning and it's been great. It is the base model, with 2 swings, slide, fort, etc.

We use the bottom where it's supposed to be a sandbox as a flower garden and we just have the grass around it, we never did mulch because of the ticks in the area.

DH and I are looking into getting a nice playset for our kids this year. Both girls have birthdays at the beginning of summer, so the plan is to give it to them then. We want it to have room for at least two swings and a slide. Any suggestions about ones you have and like OR brands to steer clear of? I'm not opposed to buying used on Craigslist as well, but am also going to look at new ones. I don't think we want to spend over $1500.
