I know a couple female Elliotts.

We were team green, but when I told people that we didn't even have one name in mind for each gender because we wanted to meet her first and see if a name just felt right after being with her a bit, they seemed to be ok with it. We actually took almost a week to declare the official name!

Thanks everyone!

It's been a tough day name wise. I joked on facebook this morning that Nora had been kicking me really hard in a, "Mama, I was trying to tell you I was a girl all along!" kind of way, and I got a text from my Mom saying that maybe she just didn't like her name being changed. Then my mother in law came home and said "I've been thinking about it all day, and I really love the name Elliot for a girl... just saying!". And then my husbands aunt texted me the exact same thing!

I'm just feeling like now everyone is sort of pressuring me into naming her Elliot, and I feel like the power is being taken away from me in some way.

@winnibee: yes! We had an ultrasound about a month ago or so (and another two weeks later), and we were told both times he was "for sure" a boy. Well, yeah, "he" is not. "He" has a vagina. We went for a super detailed anatomy scan yesterday and the tech was surprised we were told boy, considering there was absolutely nothing between the legs. She thinks it was a swollen labia that the other tech mistook for a weiner!

I think you should us the name you love and feels right for your sweet girl and it that's Elliott - go for it! I doubt anyone will think twice about the name change considering she isn't even here, and if they do, all that matters is what YOU think. :)

Tell people that you actually aren't sure after all, and take a little while to see if you can get used to Nora as her name. I'm not a fan of converting boys' names to girls', personally. :-/

I wouldn't hesitate to switch, though I wouldn't rush into announcing the new name. I would just tell people (next time it comes up or they mention Nora) that you are reconsidering. I have had several friends/family members do this, and I never really thought twice about it.

For what it is worth, I love both names! Norah was on my short list, and I love Elliot(t) for a boy OR girl. I tried really hard to convince my husband to give LO a name that could be shortened to Ellie.

You could just say that you weren't sure. You could make up a white lie that when you announced, you found out that a friend has her heart set on the name Nora and you are reconsidering for her sake. People will get over it.

@bookwormmama: @Sophs Mama: Elliot, (Ellie, Elle), is our girl name as well. (All fingers crossed, hoping this baby is a girl.) So I obviously love it and say go for it!

I don't think it's a big deal to change your mind. Just next time people bring up the name or call her Nora, say you changed your mind and you're still finalizing a name.
