I just switched at a few weeks ago at 28 weeks. I havent had any problems. I was forced to though as my original doctor stopped delivering babies, but the insurance wouldn't/doesn't know that's the reason.

I switched because my Gyno didn't deliver at my preferred hospital. He was understanding because it was the closest to my house and gave me a referral to a different doctor that did deliver at that hospital. So it worked out for me but I didn't really leave because of the Doctor. I honestly liked that Doctor but really hated their billing lady. She was the worst! But I ended up absolutely LOVING my new Doctor.

Thanks, ladies. I've already got appointments for 8 and 11-12 wks at doctors, and the later appointment is the doctor I think I will want to deliver (due to her hospital association)...so I may just go ahead and switch at that point. The first practice will probably be a little annoyed, but oh well!

@MrsSCB: This is what I'm afraid of. There's literally no way I could have had a positive pregnancy test more than a day or two before I made the phone calls, and several practices already wouldn't take me due to availability issues.

I had to switch mid pregnancy with #2 because we moved states. It was fine! My new OB just reviewed my records before formally "accepting" me as a patient. The switch was at 22 weeks. No issues.

I had to switch at 12 weeks b/c my dr didn't do deliveries anymore. She saw me up til then, gave me some referrals and had all of my records transferred over to the new practice. It was all pretty seamless.

I switched at 24 weeks with my first pregnancy and had zero issues. I was not happy with my care with the first OB and things got worse. She also would only deliver at a hospital that I didn't want to be at. My new practice asked why I switched and completely agreed with my reasoning when I explained the situation.

I switched practices at 20 weeks (I was increasingly unhappy with the practice I was seeing), and had no problems with either practice or my insurance company (both were in-network, so they didn't care who I saw). The only "problems" were that my new practice was annoyed (with the first practice) that I hadn't been given a glucose test early due to family history, and the first practice also called asking why I was switching (which was just a little awkward for me because I don't like being critical).

They told me they've had women switch at 39 weeks!

I switched doctors at about 12 weeks -- wasn't a big deal! I know people who have switched later than that, too. The only trouble I had was finding a doctor who had space to take me. I wanted to switch to deliver at a different hospital, so I had to call a bunch of docs who delivered at that hospital before I found one who wasn't full for the month of August.

Any advice on switching OBs mid pregnancy? If you did it, did you have pushback from the dictor/hospital (not wanting to take you later on), or hassle from your insurer?

I've got appointments booked at two doctors who look good - one is closer and delivers a a very close hospital, but won't see me til about 11 weeks, which I am not really comfortable with. The other is farther away but can/will see me at 8 weeks and will do a sonogram and various testing at that point )which meets my expectations from my two prior pregnancies. My DDs were born outside the U.S. so I'm new to how things are done here...

TIA! It's all very hypothetical as its so early, but I like to be on top of things.
