I ordered a 10 day supply of the PIO in sesame oil. If it goes ok I'll stick with it and Walgreens. They have a distribution center in my state and can get meds to me next day for free, even on Saturday. Now I have to find something else to worry about. ;)

Thanks for all the pharmacy recommendations! I talked to my nurse and she said sesame oil will be fine. The doctor just prefers cottonseed because it seems to cause less reactions. She put in an order to pharmacy three (Walgreens Specialty) so I should have my meds tomorrow. I'm going to let pharmacy two (CVS Caremark) keep processing my order in case I decide to switch back to cottonseed.

@Leialou: From their website:

Strohecker's Specialty Pharmacy is compounding Progesterone 50mg/ml in Ethyl Oleate. This medication does require a valid prescription from your clinician.
This medication is priced at $49.95 for a 10ml vial

@Leialou: I've never done PIO, but I agree with others that I don't think the particular oil matters, unless you have an allergy to a particular ingredient (peanut oil, for example). I hope you get a hold of your nurse soon!

ETA: my pharmacy is Village Fertility Pharmacy. I googled quickly and it says sesame oil, but in case you wanted to try calling them, they overnight things as well and have always been very good.

Is there a reason the other oil won't work? I don't know anything about this stuff, by the way, but it sounds like it's just a carrier oil

Strohecker pharmacy in Portland Oregon can usually ship things out the same day if they have it in stock. Plus they are on the west coast so there's more time for them to prep the package. It's only 10am here. Good luck!

I used MetroDrugs for my PIO - I'm based in NYC so I just picked up from their local pharmacy but im pretty sure they ship nation wide. They also compound their meds in house, so maybe you have a better chance of getting your preferred base?

Do you think the progesterone will still go into my system even if I have a reaction to a new type of oil?

@ShootingStar: I was thinking of calling Freedom Fertility next. I checked their site and they say they have PIO in sesame oil, not cottonseed. So I still have to talk to my nurse first.

@twodoghouse: I'm just on PIO. Logically what you are saying makes sense. As long as there is progesterone the oil shouldn't matter. Emotionally I'm a little scared to change what's been working so far!

If nothing else, maybe you can go into your clinic for shots? I'm not sure about changing bases but I remember someone here switched oils several times because of allergic reactions. (Spaniel love? Bananas maybe?) I don't think the oil matters as long as you don't have a reaction to it - it's just the medium to get the progesterone in, I believe. Are you on suppositories too, or just the PIO?

I'm having a hard time refilling my PIO prescription. The pharmacy I was using won't ship to TX anymore. The pharmacy my nurse sent the prescription to today needs 48-72 hours before they can ship. That's crazy to me. I need my meds my Tuesday PM and want to get them overnighted today in case of delays. I called a third pharmacy and they can have the meds to me tomorrow but they only have progesterone in sesame oil and I've been using cottonseed. My nurse is still at lunch so I can't call and ask just yet. I won't lie, I'm freaking out. I'll miscarry if I can't get any more PIO in time.
