I started with offering milk in a straw cup with breakfast, lunch and supper and as he started drinking that to cut back on the feedings in between morning and bedtime. In your case I would also maybe move the first snack to before nap? Good luck!

If you switch the nap bottles to 2oz milk and 2oz water that takes you to an ok amount of milk. Then you could wean down at your leisure. I'd leave the daycare and morning bottles as milk and work on switching the sleep bottles to water.

@runnerd: Thanks! I have tried cutting down on the ounces per bottle, but it's hit or miss. I may start trying to add in water and see how that goes.

We worried about removing bottles (to change to straw cups) for naps since he often fed to sleep. Fortunately, it seems like sucking/mouthing anything is soothing for him and he doesn't seem to mind whether he has a straw cup of milk, a bottle of water, or chewing on a paci for a few minutes.

Our LO was still drinking a lot of formula when we switched (25-30oz a day), whereas with WCM the doctor recommended around 15oz, 24oz max. I just started slow. I tried to take his bottles down to about 4 5oz bottles at first, then just keep reducing the size of the bottles down. Now he gets milk 2x at daycare (breakfast and lunch), and at bedtime - bedtime is basically just 2-3oz. I supplemented with water. Because he wasn't a good eater, and I was so worried about fluids, I also took to giving him some sippy cups of 1/5 juice, 4/5 water which he would down for extra fluids - not that I recommend that, but I decided I felt better about that than worrying about hydration.

I am trying to figure out how to switch DS off of formula and am sort of coming up short. It's more about the volume he currently drinks and that he shouldn't drink that much WCM. Part of the problem is that he needs a bottle to nap. In an ideal situation he would not need milk during the day, only morning and before bed. Here is what our schedule looks like right now:

6am wake up and 4oz. Bottle
7:30-8: breakfast - fruit, oatmeal, cereal, etc.
10:30: nap with 4-8 oz. bottle
11:00: snack
12:00 lunch
1:30: nap with 4-8 oz. bottle
3:00: snack
5:00: 4 oz. bottle (only while at daycare)
7:00: dinner
8:00: 8-12 oz. bottle

Suggestions? Just switch some to water? He eats a lot when we do feed him, to the point where he won't eat anymore.
