I made the switch when LO1 started drinking milk because I read about the fact that lower fat options actually CAUSE weight gain while whole doesn't. Farmers give pigs skim milk to fatten them up- seriously!

We do all full fat dairy in our house these days. My husband is a milk drinker and used to drink 5 or 6 glasses of skim a day. Now he is satisfied and full from 1 or 2. Whole milk is much richer and more filling so maybe you won't feel like you want as much. I know when I used to eat fat free Greek yogurt I could still eat more after but now that I only eat full fat I only want a big dollop.

We only use whole milk in our house, but I don't actually ever drink a glass of milk. I add it to tea or coffee and I use it in baking/cooking. Four cups of any milk, let alone whole milk, is a pretty significant caloric intake. I prefer to take those calories in through food...because I am pretty much always hungry! :silly:

I've always been a fan of whole milk products over reduced fat anything. I just think it tastes better and I consume it in moderation.

We love whole milk and full-fat dairy (although I will buy nonfat Greek yogurt). I don't really drink milk alone that often, but we have it with cereal or I go through seasons where I want to drink milk all the time. It stays fresher longer with the added fat content, which always annoyed me about skim milk. Sometimes we grab 2% (which, by the way, milk is only about 4% fat by volume, so its not like its THAT much more). I think its more filling and I enjoy a glass of it way more than skim - so perhaps you can get by with less milk.

4 cups of whole milk is 400 calories/day, or at least 25% of what you should be taking in daily, so that would be a factor for me (that you have so much, not that you have it)

I do think whole fat dairy is better for you, but 4 cups is a lot of sugar+fat. Does it actually keep you full?

I will use it to bake, but i don't really care for milk in general.

I LOVE milk. I drink a ton, like you. I even prefer it with dinner over wine a lot of the time.
I used to drink skim, when DH and I moved in together, we drank 2%.
We switched to eating quasi-clean and I'm trying to buy less processed food. I don't like the taste of a lot of reduced-fat options and generally think the less processing, the better. We buy full-fat sour cream, cream cheese, yogurt, etc.
So now we buy both whole milk (I use it in cooking and baking a lot too) and 2%. DH says that whole milk is too thick for him, but I enjoy it.

We buy organic from local cows and I can taste a difference (even if it is just in my head).

I'm trying to lose weight, and whole milk has a lot more calories (duh), so I don't always drink as much as I want to, but I really enjoy it when I do. I've switched to drinking water with meals, but I'll still drink a glass or two of milk a day.

I've been a skim milk drinker as long as I can remember. Now that LO drinks milk, we give him whole milk. I was doing a bit of reading and there seems to be a decent argument for whole milk dairy being healthier. I was considering switching to whole milk myself. Has anyone made the switch or have you always drank whole milk? Just to add, I'm a big milk drinker. I typically have about 4 glasses a day.
