Our go to's for table food are: cut up rotisserie chicken (so easy since no cooking involved!), avocado, banana, string cheese, grilled cheese, pasta and sauce, mac and cheese, beets, apple slices, eggs- scrambled or hard boiled, raspberries, and really anything we are eating!

@edelweiss: I second the greatness of roasted fruits + veggies!

Some fruits are soft enough fresh, like mango and ripe kiwi. Avocado is good.

Sweet potatoes can be roasted in thick cut slices, or in rounds. We've also had luck with cauliflower (roasted), but I recommend making a foil packet for roasting that, or covering the roasting pan in foil. That gets it nice and soft while locking the flavor in (unlike steaming). She is also liking sauteed zucchini. She doesn't eat the skin, but sucks away the pulpy middle. Gross/yum.

Shredded meat is L's first love. You can poach a chicken breast and store it in the fridge, to give her some shredded meat - if you can boil water, you can poach a chicken breast.

i've been roasting pear, apple, and sweet potato slices until they get nice and soft. i just drizzle with olive oil and bake at 375 (15 minutes for apples/pears, about 20 or so for sweet potato--all depending on thickness). he spits out anything that's too hard. i've added a pinch of cinnamon sometimes.

also i'm trying to give him more of what we're eating--i overcooked some spinach ravioli for him and he did pretty well with it. much better than the first time i tried it a few weeks ago. i've also given him some beef pot pie--it was with ground beef so the bits were nice and small. tonight i'm going to try ditalini pasta with bacon and peas.

i was also thinking about making some pancakes.

this is all new to me, and simultaneously i'm trying to figure out how/whether to nudge him in the weaning arena (he's almost 11 months).

@blackbird: I should try those veggie sticks! L prefers her food to have flavor, she does not like plain veggies - can't say that I blame her! ;)

@Smurfette: Yeah, I have to hide the bananas so she doesn't see them out. Otherwise that's all she would eat!

I do fresh meat "sticks", roasted veggie sticks (carrots, sweet potato, turnips, squash), and sticks of celery, too. I guess she likes that it's cold

I roast mine with olive oil and i will add a sprinkle of garlic or chili powder sometime. I try to expose her to flavors.

She mostly just plays with it and sucks on the food. But one day, I know she'll eat it!

@hilsy85: I was worried about the canned fruit and preservatives. I didn't think about the frozen. I will try that. I have given her pieces of turkey lunch meat and she won't touch it, but loved turkey at Cracker Barrel. My issue is I don't cook during the week since DH travels. So I do a sandwich for lunch and then usually a salad for dinner. On the weekends, I give her whatever I have for lunch from my plate if we are out.
Do you just roast the sweet potato? What do you season with it? I don't eat them, so I don't know!

@swurlygurl: Girlfriend loves her banana. She was eating Cheerios the other morning, saw me eating a banana and dropped her cheerios and was jumping up in her seat till I gave her a banana.

I've been trying to give her parts of what we're eating. This week she has tried some butternut squash sauce on pasta (i just broke it up into bits), some potato and beef from a soup I made, and some black beans (we were having tacos). Tonight I'm making an eggplant/zucchini bake (with cheese and sauce) so I'll give her some of the vegetables in sauce, and a bit of bread I guess.

L's favorites are olives (I just use the canned black ones), frozen blueberries (she has to be naked for that one - toooo messy!), bananas and any meat (chicken, ground beef, eggs, sausage, turkey). She'll also do frozen peas if she's in the mood. Otherwise it's a struggle to get her to really eat anything else :/

I would maybe try frozen fruit that you've defrosted, or really ripe regular fruit...I feel like canned fruit sometimes has added sugar? Honestly, I would look at what you're eating and try to feed her the same. So if you have a turkey sandwich for lunch, send some pieces of ripped up turkey, small pieces of cheese, small pieces of bread, small pieces of tomato.

Roasted squash and sweet potato, avocado, and beans have been good first foods for us!

R is starting to take an interest in real food, not just purees. She even picks them up to eat herself. Of course, her first love is puffs and nothing beats those.

I need more ideas on what to feed her. I sent turkey sausage and broccoli yesterday for lunch. The turkey was too tough, she was having issues chewing it and I think the broccoli gave her gas and diarrhea (is it bad that I am glad day care had to deal with that diaper change)

I am going to try some chicken tonight. We tried carrots earlier and she wouldn't touch them, but going to try again.

Can I do canned fruit?
