@Delight, it was actually my OBGYN that referred me to a chiropractor when I explained to her what was going on. The chiropractor was the cheaper and med-free option, so I decided to try it first. I'm still hopeful it fixes everything!

@Mrs.Deer, I looked into physical therapy but my insurance won't pay for it :( I'm keeping it as the backup option if the chiropractic care doesn't work.

@Looch, I'm so sorry - 4 years!? I hope you get some relief soon!

This is really interesting, thanks for posting about this. My son will be 4 this winter and I still have pain if I sit for long periods of time. I might have to do something.

@Tanjowen: thanks so much for the update! I'm glad you are getting some relief! It sounds like the chiropractor was a good way to go! I'm still suffering but I haven't done anything about it yet, so that's my fault. I have a doctor's appointment in a couple weeks and was going to discuss it then. I also got a number for an osteopath so I might try that too. It's to the point where I can't sit anymore at all without being in pain and it's really frustrating. I need to just bite the bullet and go have someone look at it. Thanks again for the update, I hope it continues to heal!

@delight: Update on the tailbone pain:

I started going to a chiropractor 2 weeks ago. The x-rays he took showed that my pelvis is lopsided, which looks really odd on the x-ray. :). She sees me 2 times a week for a therapeutic massage (it hurts like a b*itch, just a heads up) and an adjustment. She also did cold laser therapy on my tailbone the first week.

It's not fixed by any means, but it's certainly better! I have hope that it will eventually quit hurting all together. My insurance will pay for 12 visits in a year, so a massage + adjustment costs me about $25.

@delight, I'm afraid I'm having the same problem with it getting worse. My doctor told me it's inflammation, but yes, sitting on the couch or on hard surfaces hurt! I will say that the exercise ball has been the best thing in helping the pain - I pulled it back out a 3 months pp and it gives me lots of relief.

I really need to go to a chiropractor and see if it helps at all. I'll make sure to update you if it does.

@troberts1021: yes how are you doing now?

I'm 10m PP and my tailbone has gotten increasingly more painful. My commute is up to 3 hours a day but thankfully I'm finished for the summer. However, I can't even sit down on the couch or at the table anymore, it hurts too much. The only time I sit is when BF. Ugh. Hopefully yours is better now.

No personal experience but my sister had this due to a large baby that got stuck on her tailbone and she said it STILL hurts...her LO is 5 :/ I don't think seeing a chiropractor would hurt!

I gave birth in December to a large baby - 9 lb, 14 oz. I didn't notice any tailbone pain until early March. I'm not sure if that's because of the healing process from giving birth and it just took a backseat, but since March the pain has become progressively worse. I went to my GP and had x-rays done and she determined it is just very bruised, not broken, and gave me prescription strength Aleve, but it's not working. I did have an epidural while giving birth (didn't work, but that's another story).

Has anyone gone through this before? Would you recommend seeing a chiropractor, or a masseuse? Is there anything you tried that helped? It's very painful to sit in the car for any period of time or sit on hard surfaces, so any advice is greatly appreciated :-)
