@ladybee: not in particular. I just went to the pharmacy and asked for an SI joint support belt, and bought one that was reasonably priced. I know there are pregnancy-specific ones out there too, but mine wasn't. I paid maybe $55?

@ladybee: hooray! I saw a Chiro last time I was pregnant and my only regret was that I waited so long.

The other things that really helped were:
1) seeing a physical therapist who specialized in pelvic floor health. Kegels can help with some types of pregnancy pain, but there are a lot of other exercises that can also help. Things like clamshells and hip rolls on a yoga ball. It helped not just while pregnant but also with labor.
2) wearing a SI belt after being adjusted to help "hold" the adjustment and also using a maternity support girdle. Both were covered by insurance when prescribed by my physical therapist.

3) keeping my legs together but not crossed , using the log roll method to get up out of bed and sleeping with a pillow between my knees.
4) walking in the pool to rest my joints and exercise my core.
I hope you just keep feeling better and better. SPD/SI pain is no small thing and I am so glad you found a good Chiro.

@ladybee: try a support belt!! They hold your hips together a little and really helped me last pregnancy. This time, not much has helped, but the pain decreased a LOT around 25-ish weeks (it's back now at 35 weeks).

Aaaaand I just read your update. Glad chiropractor is helping!!

@ladybee: I went to the chiropractor during my last pregnancy and it was amazing. My midwife is the one who recommended it for my hip pain! I would seek out one who has experience working with pregnant women. It also helped me a lot after labor getting things back where they should be.

Yup, also had this with my first pregnancy. It was excruciating. I had to brace myself before standing up from my chair at work. I would second chiropractics. I went to one who specialized in prenatal chiropractic techniques - specifically the Webster Technique. I found her on this website http://icpa4kids.com/index.php

I had this with my first pregnancy and can already tell it'll be an issue this pregnancy as well. I second, third, fourth, hands down getting an adjustment by a chiropractor. I went weekly, if not, twice a week to help alleviate the pain. Plus, getting everything all lined up nice and good is beneficial anyhow!

I also wore a maternity belt if I was on my feet for an extended amount of time. That helped tremendously as well!

@ladybee: I got a recommendation from a friend who used the practice during get pregnancy. Her ob actually used them too and I've noticed they mostly serve pregnant women and new moms. I asked my ob before making an appointment, and even though I'm activity restricted, she was for it because of my pain level. Did your ob give a reason why you weren't supposed to? I'm just curious as I keep finding many obs have drastically different views on so many things! Would you ob allow a prenatal massage?

Well, mine is my cousin, so that's how I found him. Yes, you need one who specializes in pregnancy. Try finding one trained in the Activator Method as it is gentler on your body. For what it's worth, my doctor was really pleased that I was seeing a chiropractor so my body was aligned and carrying a big baby had much less impact on me than it could have. It made labor much easier too because my pelvis was in ideal alignment.

@MrsADS: PT is a great suggestion, I will ask! I know I have other back issues that could benefit from it as well.

@DesertDreams88: We don't have air so in the fall we wear sandals and flip flops. I know it's only going to make it worse but I can't imagine wearing sneakers (I hate them) in the heat!

@ElbieKay: I always hear about how tight my legs are from my doctor so maybe!

@Willow: @Hoots: @MrsSRS: with my last pregnancy my OB said no to going to a chiropractor. I have an appointment with him on Monday so I'll ask again. Even if he says no, I'm in so much pain I don't care. How did you find your chiropractor? Do they need to specialize in pregnancy?

I have postpartum lower back pain on my left side. I recently started seeing a trainer/body worker, and she thinks that this is partly related to my leg muscles being tight. Maybe you can try rolling out your IT band?

I'm in the exact same boat... I had it off and on for the past month, but now at 17 weeks and back to school teaching, I can barely walk by 3:15, and I'm limping the rest of the day/night.

I've gotten several recommendations for chiropractors and specific stretching. The ob nurse told me told also to try a maternity belt and alternating ice on and off for 20 min at a time. I'm also thinking of shifting my outfits to more casual pants and sneakers.

@Ladybee this started happening to me around 13 weeks. I think it was my SI joint/pelvic girdle pain. It was AWFUL. Mine sort of came and went but was much worse with any activity (walking, etc). It would be like shooting, knife like pain, like stop me in my tracks/double me over pain. I ended up spending a long time on bedrest for preterm labor so I think that helped it (unintentionally).

My OB was not super helpful, she basically said take Tylenol, which was useless. If it had not gotten better on its own from the bedrest, I would have really pushed to go to physical therapy. I have heard that is a really effective way to treat it - apparently there are some specific exercises/stretches to help.

I feel your pain (literally)!

I had this, and it started at the end of the first trimester for me. It ended up being so bad I could barely walk. I went to a chiropractor that specializes in pregnancy, and it helped so much! It turns out that my sacrum was twisted and pubic bones were mid-aligned.
