Thanks everyone. I won't have the opportunity for a night without the kids so while nice that isn't an issue. However, DS is a very distracted nurser these days so I think taking the pump may be the best plan in case he won't nurse and I have to pump and feed by bottle.

I just went and bought a manual pump because its so much lighter and easier. I've taken the electric on road trips before though, so if you don't have a manual, I'd probably just take the electric in the car.

i would take my electric pump just in case. however if you'd rather not lug it around and have formula for emergencies, or know you will be with LO for every feeding, then ditch the pump on your vacation!

We're going on vacation (and driving to get there) and I'm bringing my pump! We always nurse when we're together & he does bottles at daycare, but we are planning on at least one night "out", so he'll need a bottle.

I took a manual pump on vacation! It was definitely a good idea, but I don't think that I would bring an electric one.

I would absolutely bring the pump no matter what! You never know what will happen.. you may want to pump and dump if you drink, or you may want to pump before a beach trip so you can swim without worrying... or what if you're gone one week and your supply tanks from the stress of traveling (this happened to me), and you don't want to wake your baby to constantly nurse to bring your supply back? I always err on the side of caution (and I always over pack!) so I'd bring it.

i say since you have the car with you (not having to shlep it on a plane etc), why not? :) it will be nice to have if you want to give him a bottle for a longer outing where it might be more convenient to not bf.... or maybe you want to wear something totally not bf'ing friendly :) have fun on your trip!!

Are you going with just DH and the baby, or will you be going with friends? If you have opportunities where you'll be away for baby for a couple hours, I'd take a manual pump... but I wouldn't want to lug around a double electric.

Might you want to go out without the baby for a night-- like, would you go meet friends while your SO watches the baby, or anything like that? I'm inclined to say yes, better to have it and not use it, than not have it and really want it, but hopefully someone who has been in this situation will answer!

Ooh! I was JUST going to ask this question today too! I don't give bottles usually, but normally pump 1x a day and thought a bottle might be good during outings? Also going for 2 weeks.

We are going on a two week driving vacation starting next weekend. DS is BF when we are together (mornings, evenings, weekends) but I pump and he gets bottles during the week while I'm at work. I plan to nurse him during our trip, but wonder should I take my pump and a bottle too?
