My neighbor did the same thing! After we spent a while chatting in our front yards and I saw how great she was with DS I started out letting her watch him while I was at a church meeting for an hour. Then, she's watched him a few times while I've done dinner with friends. She is GREAT with him and Im so glad I took her up on her offer!

That's awesome! Since she approached you guys I don't feel like you're imposing. Get to know her a little better and go for it!

That is so awesome! I would totally take her up on it! It is so nice to get out without having to drive LO somewhere. I have a neighbor who has a 1 yo (same as my LO) and I thought we should set up some sort of barter situation (we go out one weekend, they go out the next sort of thing)! Haven't actually brought it up yet, but I think it would be so great!

That is so sweet!! I would love if a neighbor offered to watch my LO. I do know what you mean about feeling awkward though! I would have a hard time asking as well..

I like Mrs. Lemon-Lime's idea of getting to know her a little better first :)

ah that's a good idea. she always comes over and chats while i'm grilling and stuff

@sammyfab, probably not. We eat dinner at 5 typically so it'd be a 90 minute kind of thing :P

Would your LO be asleep while your neighbour is 'babysitting?' If so, I would totally take her up on her offer!

I agree with @Mrs. Lemon-Lime that you might want to invite her over for coffee/tea to get to know her better.

That's really neighborly. Growing up my street was very welcoming and helpful. I can't imagine my neighbors being so kind now.

Hmm, since you don't know her too well how about inviting her over for coffee/ tea? Or chatting her up a bit more just to be comfortable with the idea.

Our neighbor (whom i really like but don't chat with too often, just wave at and say hello/small talk when we're in our yards!) came up to DH while he was gardening yesterday and said, "i hope this isn't too weird, but...." and then offered to babysit anytime we wanted to get out. They have grandchildren and a crib and whatnot at their house.

How would you take them up on this? In a month or two, we'd probably be due for a dinner out, lol. And it'd be really nice not to drive 35 minutes away to take the baby's to MIL's.

I know she wouldn't offer unless she wanted to do it...but I feel weird taking them up on it, like i'm burdening them! And it just feels awkward!
