Actually, we may try for a late December/early January baby next time since it will work best with my school schedule. But, if school weren't a factor, then maybe I'd want to avoid a Christmas baby. It also depends on how long we had been trying though-- if we had difficulty, I'd probably get to the point that I didn't care.

I don't think I will avoid any months if we try for a 3rd child. I will probably be a bit nervous about my age around that time.

This is one of the reasons why we're specifically not starting to TTC until May. That, and to hopefully avoid being hugely pregnant in the summer!

I wouldn't have taken a break, but it did make me REALLY hope it worked earlier (it did... due in Oct). Nov-Feb are my "not fave" months that I wanted to avoid, but we wouldn't have stopped trying.

I never worried about the holiday season when TTC. I have always known, forever, that I didn't want a summer baby. My birthday is at the end of the summer, and I hated being the youngest in my class every year, and having my birthday overlooked by summer break. Plus my mom (who had both kids at the end of summer) absolutely hated the summer third trimester. I remember telling my mom as a teen that when I'm married I won't have sex from Sep-Dec because it would be the worst to have a summer baby.

All that said, I lucked out when trying for real that we were due in May. I know I wouldn't have really wanted to stop trying because by then I just Wanted. A. Baby. Now.

We took an unintentional break during March (hubs was on medication) but I wasn't too upset about it since I didn't really want a holiday baby or to be in/around a hospital during flu season. We got pregnant in May, was due in February (perfect!), but the baby came 6 weeks early and I have a New Year's Eve baby. I'm just saying the even the best laid plans don't always pan out.

I'm with @MrsH. I didn't realize how much BC would mess with my body. Assuming this cycle starts a "normal" cycle, I'd have a Christmas baby. Honestly, that would be the best gift ever at this point! And, if I have another long cycle, I'm looking at January-ish which is a-okay with me!

If we get KU next month (fx) our edd will be 12/25. We are not taking a break because after our m/c we just want a baby and we will make it feel loved and celebrated no matter when his/her birthday is.

We are debating taking a break for several months. Not necessarily because of the holidays, but because work gets a little crazy with year-end stuff around December/January. I'd feel really guilty about taking maternity leave around that time :-\ In reality, though, I don't see us taking a break. But yes, we have considered it so I understand your concerns!

@thehistoryofus, we avoided August because my niece and nephew both have August birthdays and I feel strongly about my kids not having to 'share' all their birthdays with their cousins. If i can wait one more month, I will. At least, as much as is in my power. My husband never got his own birthday celebration because he, his sister, AND his two cousins have April birthdays. Oh and August is hotter than BALLS in the midwest. It's such a disgusting month. Everyone I know who had a July/August baby here is like, "don't do it...it's so hot...it's so bad, next time I want a spring/fall baby"....

I would probably feel very differently if I didn't seem to get pregnant on the 2nd month every time. At some point, you just don't care WHEN you get pregnant when you struggle!

Personally, I find the idea of being due around a holiday to be very stressful. There are always so many work and family commitments to eat up my time, not to mention finals (which I won't have to deal with soon!). Plus it's just cold and disgusting here. I would be house ridden for days. If i can avoid that, I will.

I would agree with lots of the girls on here - I'd take a baby any month I can get it :) I would say, you never know how long it will take so take advantage of EVERY month you can! My birthday is Jan 2nd and my nephew's is Dec 27th. My mom's is Nov 27th. It's never really bothered any of us! Plus, it's nice when you're older bc your family is all around those times anyway so you can celebrate! :)

At this point I'd take a baby in any month! That said, DH has a birthday that often falls right around Thanksgiving and I feel sorry for him that his family usually throws in a card at the end of Thanksgiving dinner instead of doing a real birthday.

@Thehistoryofus:

I completely understand delaying TTC for reasons like, how old do you want to be as a parent, how much money do you want in the bank, do you want to own a home, and how far apart do you want siblings (reasons which really wouldn't be resolved in a month).

I just see stopping for a month (or two) because you don't want to have a child around the holiday season as something pretty different (And vastly less significant, if I am honest).

I feel the same way about avoiding certain times of the year because you don't want your child to be the youngest in the class. If my parents had followed that train of thought, then I wouldn't be here.. But they didn't, and I am, and I have always been top of my class. Overplanning and trying to engineer an optimally timed child kind of freaks me out, if I am honest.

But that's just me, if its important to you, that's all that matters :-)

@sea_bass: There are a lot of factors that people take into consideration when they are having a child. Things like how old do you want to be as a parent, how much money do you want in the bank, do you want to own a home, and how far apart do you want siblings. These are all timing decisions that people take into consideration when TTC every day. Of course we want a baby and of course it would be a blessing whenever they arrive but, if I had a choice, there are some timing factors I would like to consider and for me the holidays are one.

I agree with a lot of people on this thread, if you have been TTC for a while, its silly to take time off just to avoid a holiday baby. But for us, we aren't in a huge hurry for a BFP, so skipping a month or two might make sense for us.

I don't get this at all. If I wanted a baby, I want a baby. I don't see the point in trying to plan the optimal time of year for them to arrive.

They are a blessing whenever they arrive.

Who knows that might have been your month, and you gave up the chance.

My baby is due on my birthday and I am thrilled. I would equally thrilled if it were a Christmas baby. People seem to make such a big deal over the holidays, making a rod for their own back (I blame pinterst!).

Holidays mean family time for me, so if there is a birthday then even better!

I would rather have the baby just before the holidays or a few months after.

My birthday is in November and I wouldn't mind having her birthday close to mine, but it's a busy month already. I got pregnant with DD in April '11 and had her towards the end of January. The only problem I have with it is that it's a month after Christmas, so everyone is kind of burned out and she just got a ton of gifts.

I never thought about this when we were trying for LO...she was born 11/11/11 and I love her birthday :). I loved having a winter baby and having an excuse to stay cozy at home when she was just born...also it was dark all the time and she slept great...and I was able to wear super comfy sweaters post partum...no pressure to wear cute summer outfits :)

I want to avoid TTC in February and March for our next baby though...so I can still have a nice birthday and Christmas for LO and I don't think I will be able to do that with a newborn (my husband thinks I am crazy bc it would just be one year that would be affected)

Yes! I know we talked about this in another thread ;) We are trying into next month (I'd love a Thanksgiving baby), but taking a break for a month or so after that.

We have our holiday baby already and want to spread the costs out a bit where birthdays and holidays are concerned. We have Christmas, the next week is my birthday, the week after is Cam's, and after that is my mom's. Financially it is a big hit, so ideally we want to spread it out a bit.

Last time we were ttc, I would have thought my answer was nuts since I just wanted a baby. Now I'm not in as big of a hurry. Knowing my luck, the mood will strike in April and...

I was prob going to kind of do this if I hadn't gotten the BFP this month. But I was going to skip TTC in April and May. My son was born at the beginning of January so the month of April would skip over the end of the holidays/his birthday time. Then my doc actually recommends not to try in May b.c of all the pesticides and whatnot the farmers spread during that time period. He said if you trace back birth defects and preterm labor there is a noticeable spike with babies conceived in May. I don't know if I believe that but we conceived my son Memorial Day weekend a few weeks ago and he was born 6 weeks early.... so.... I don't know!

We talked about start to ttc for our next in April BUT after seeing that would make a late DEC/early Jan baby AND me having to go through the summer in South Texas pregnant, which I've already done and will avoid like the plague if at all possible, I think we'll wait until after May.

When we first started trying I felt the same way-did not want a Christmas baby. When the time rolled around we just wanted a BFP at that point after trying for so long. We had actually agreed that it would be our last month trying since our DDs were getting older.

LO was due Christmas Eve and was born 12/21. It seemed like such a special gift. We have always agreed though that she will always have her birthday seperate from Christmas. Everyone deserves to have their own day:)

I never even though about this. I did originally think a summer baby would be nice so that I could have maternity leave while the weather is nice. But at this point, I'll take a baby whenever!
