@mrs.shinerbock: thanks for the feedback! yep, I'm used to city living so I feel comfortable from that perspective. Good to know you never felt unsafe

I haven't been to Bogota (only through the airport), but I've been to Colombia several times over the last five years and have taken LO twice. Once at 5 months and once at 17 months to see DH's family.

I've been to several major cities in Colombia (Medellin, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Baranquilla), as well as traveled through the country side and never felt unsafe. We always take the normal city safety precautions- don't wear/carry valuables, don't go out alone at night, have the hotel/host call a cab, etc. it's a beautiful country and everyone is always super friendly.

I haven't been to Bogota, but I have been to Colombia.

We took our toddler to Cartagena, Colombia this past summer and really enjoyed it. We stayed in the center of Cartagena for about 4 days and then about 3 days at a resort. We didn't get to Bogota, but I've heard nice things. Colombia has changed so much, and it's actually on developing into a "it" travel destination. I also found it quite family friendly. When we arrived at the airport there was a special customs line just for families. People loved LO in restaurants and in public even when she was making noise. She got so many smiles and comments as I think Colombians really enjoy children in a way that we don't here in the U.S. I'm in a special Facebook group dedicated to travel and another family with a toddler went to Bogota and really liked it.

I suspect you'll be staying in more tourist friendly area, so I think you should be ok. As with travel to anywhere, just make sure you choose a hotel or rental in as safe area as possible.

Let me know if you have any questions. Also I live in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in NYC in the 80's and 90's, so I know "dangerous", and I never felt that way in Colombia.

Has anyone been to or are you from bogota Colombia? DH is there for work. I could possibly go visit and take our 10 month old. I'm game for trying but I need to know about safety. I currently live in a huge US city so I'm used to common sense safety stuff, but I'm a little hesitant about bogota.
Thoughts?
