LO isn't here yet, but I get sick really easily so I deal with this often. Since I have limited PTO and my boss isn't crazy about us working from home when we're sick (she'd rather us just take a PTO day), I only call out when I have a fever or if my cold symptoms are so bad that it would clearly alarm everyone around me. I try to get around the whole workign from home thing by saying I have doctors appts and it would be easier for me to WFH that day, so at least I have justification for being there.

I go to work sick unless I'm running a fever/throw up. LO gets sick from daycare often in the winter and I need those PTO days to take care of him.

Luckily, I can work from home with my job. That is what I do now when I'm really sick. I am not interested in wasting PTO for sick time. I imagine I will just do the same thing when I have a baby. But right now I'm planning to look for a nanny instead of daycare, so hopefully some of this will be avoided.

I go to work sick unless I have a fever. I've had two fevers since LO has been in daycare. Otherwise I come to work.

Like last week, I threw up like crazy the night before, but no fever, so off to work I went.

Sounds like we're all in the same boat.

Just wanted to make sure I'm doing the reasonable thing by being here. I always judged people that came to work sick, especially when I was pregnant. I've learned not to judge in so many other areas of parenting since LO was born I guess this one more.

I am dealing with this right now too - we are on our 2nd week of being sick and DH gave me a hard time about not calling in sick this morning. I had to use up all my sick time while I was on leave so I hate to 'waste' it on a cold.

I went to work sick. I had no PTO leftover so I was just miserable for my first 8 months back. I stayed home a few times unpaid when there was absolutely nothing else I could do.

@Smurfette: Yeah, I used all my sick time and just realized accounting paid out my vacation time too even though I they weren't supposed to (I only looked at my pay stubs from leave last night). So any time I take off would be unpaid and need tobe approved by my department head.

I am rarely in my cube and I'm touching surfaces all day long and serving food to people. Ugh.

I go to work sick. That sounds awful, but I'd rather save my PTO off for fun things.

Maternity leave took all my sick and vacation time, so I am just having to suck it up and get through the day. I use hand sanitizer like crazy and just stay in my cube as much as I can.

LO has been at daycare about 4 weeks now. She's on her second cold and so am I. I haven't figured out how to avoid it when she suddenly sneezes in my face or jabs her fingers in my mouth. I presume I'll get a lot of these colds for a while.

I'm trying to figure out the balance of when to call in sick. I hate the idea of getting co-workers sick but I can't be out all the time so I'm just trying to wash my hands a lot. DH decided to work from home today in the name of protecting his coworkers but I work in a lab about 50% time so I can't easily work from home.

WOHMs, how do you decide if you should take a sick day?
