At five months, she's bound to be putting everything in her mouth anyway. I would just wash really well afterwards, if it even turns into an issue :-) have fun!

I take my baby almost weekly to see my patients. And even if she is in her stroller they all try and grab her lol. I don't mind. Almost everyone touches her hands or feet though and let's just say, I know where their hands have been :/ So I make sure she has her binky in and we just put hand sanitizer on her hands. She hasn't gotten sick from them yet. And they love babies so much. Granted they all call her a boy, but I love how happy they get :)

I brought LO almost weekly starting at 3 weeks to visit my grandmother in her nursing home and no one ever asked to hold her or tried to. A few people touched her hands, or little feet, but that was it. You are going to make their day for sure!!!

I've brought my dd to visit my grandmother in the nursing home wing of the hospital 2-3x a week for the last year. She gets passed around from person to person - it is amazing to see the smiles and youthfulness babies bring out in the elderly. I just follow common sense (if a toy drops I wipe it down, washing hands before and after etc). We've had no problems so far

@catomd00: Thanks, that makes me feel better. I'll just hold him on in my arms. In other situations I usually find having him in a carrier with a blanket around limits people touching. Since his costume doesn't allow that, I was just getting in my head.

@cmomma17 Thanks. I thought it was such a cute idea for little kids too young to trick or treat. For the bigger kids, they hand out candy.

What are you planning to do if not holding him? I took my dd as young as 6 weeks to visit her great grandmother and never had any issues. I usually had her in her stroller or wore her. None of the residents ever touched her, just looked. They loved it - made them so happy! My husbands grandmother is in a rehab facility and I had to talk him into letting us take DD to visit because he was scared of germs now that she's into everything. I'm not concerned in the least. Just use basic hand hygeine and you will both be ok!

I feel sort of silly for asking this but tomorrow we are planning to take our 20 week old to a nursing home for a Halloween visit a local church puts on. I really like the idea of our little dinosaur bringing some smiles, but am suddenly nervous and unsure about germ protocol.

I would typically just babywear him to limit contact but his costume has a tail. Would you just politely ask people to not touch his hands/face? Lie and say he is afraid of strangers? Just wash his hands right afterwards? Or am I being crazy?
