@MrsBrewer: I'm not sure if clomid has worked yet. I took it for 5 days from CD2-7 and now I'm using OPKs every day, it's only CD13 today and no positive yet. As far as i know i haven't ovulated in the year plus i've been off of BC, so i'm a little hesitant to believe that i actually will this month, but hopefully the drug works! I didn't have any side effects, which makes it seem like it isn't really doing anything since so many people have strong side effects. But i guess i just don't react much in general because i didn't have any side effects for metformin or progesterone

@MrsBrewer: As you get used to the higher dose it might become easier to lose weight. It didn't fall off fast for me...but I was able to lose about 20 lbs with a LOT less effort than before.

And, progesterone made me feel ever more gross...so that might be causing it instead of the metformin. I pretty much didn't want to eat at all when I was on P.

@MaryM: Hmm, I'm not sure if they are the ER or not? I will have to take a look at my prescription bottle.

@LaughLines: Sounds just like me! I just had to start taking the progesterone a few days ago to induce my period, hopefully I will have a normal cycle (or at least shorter) one of these times!

I have cut waaaayy down on carbs, and I am trying to watch that very diligently. I have probably about 50-60 lbs that I should lose, so I was a little disappointed that it wasn't helping me lose weight. Looks like I will need to cut my diet even more, and really start working out hard!

How has the clomid worked for you so far? I think my doctor said that would be the next step for me.

@MrsBrewer: I am on 1500mg.. started about 4 month ago. As far as i know i haven't been ovulating. It did shorten one of my cycles to only 38 days (as opposed to solely relying on progesterone to induce cycles) but then the one after that i had to use progesterone again. I try to do low carb, but i'm not super strict.. just don't eat chips/pasta/bread and the really obvious things anymore.

I lost maybe a pound or two, but I don't have much spare weight to loose without going into an unhealthy BMI range. I don't really have any side effects, but i don't with clomid either.

I just wanted to update with my experience so far. So far I pretty much feel like crap on it :-( I'm nauseous every morning, even though I take it with a pretty big breakfast, and then lunch/dinner a lot of times I will get diarrhea, sorry probably TMI....but oh well.

So far it hasn't been helping me lose weight at all either. I know it's only been like 2 1/2 weeks, but nothing gone yet!

I will probably continue taking it for another month or so, but if I continue to feel like crap, and it's not helping my cycles.....I think I may look into something else.

@KT326: If it's the metformin that's causing the nausea, it didn't starte getting bad until I was taking 3 pills (1500 mg) per day. So 3-4 weeks after I started metformin, since I'm going up one pill each week.

Still not sure which med is causing it. I did stop taking the metformin and all of my other drugs because I couldn't take the nausea. I started taking metformin again last night (at only 2 pills or 1000 mg), so far today has been fine. I stopped taking the prenatals so I can figure out if it's the prenatal or the metformin & dex combo. I'll see if going up to my supposed 3 metformin pills will affect my nausea.

@MrsBrewer: here's the thing: I always worked out. But, I used to work out and not lose 1 single pound. With Metformin, I was still working out, but the weight was falling off. So, by "effortless", I mean nothing more than I had been doing for years before that.
I do believe it also stabled my cravings out. I used to have an insane sweet-tooth.

@MrsBrewer: I was (am) on a max dosage (2,000/day) and it did nothing for me as far as ovulation goes.
My cycles did go from like 60-70 days back down to about 35.
I also lost weight effortlessly.

@MrsBrewer: i think it's 500, 2x a day. I remember they discussed upping it later if needed too. I was super healthy (had lost 50 lbs, was running) when I started it though so I think maybe NOW I would need a higher dose if trying to conceive. That's all just in my mind speculation though, I have no idea if that's how it works! :silly:

@MrsBrewer: your dosage sounds right for someone just starting. I did the same...increasing every 2 weeks. My doc hoped to get me up to 2,000, but I just couldn't remember to add in the fourth pill. I've stayed at 1,000-1,500 for about a year or so.

I did get a BFP in December, but miscarried (the doctors said it most likely had nothing to do with PCOS though).

@MrsBrewer: I started Metformin way before we were TTC, but I think it helped a lot in other areas of my life.

I always struggled to lose weight, even if I did everything like it was suggested (I did Weight Watchers for years) I would lose maybe .2 lbs a week.

After I got up to 1500 mg of Metformin, it became SO much easier to lose weight. I was a little nauseated at first each time I increased my dose, but if I stuck with it, it went away after a week or so.

I also had the best success when I limited carbs. I didn't want to give them up totally, but I'd allow myself to have them at only one meal a day. I lost about 20 lbs right away doing that.

I used to have 99 day cycles and I'm not sure if I Oed or not, but now I seem to be having pretty regular 28 day cycles. I did have to take progesterone one cycle to kick start that, but overall, I think metformin has made a huge difference.

I started Metformin for my PCOS around two weeks before I got my BFP, but I don't think it contributed to it. I started at a very low dose and I don't think the medicine could have helped that quickly.

However, around a month before my BFP I had started a very low carb diet. I think that is what really helped. 2 weeks after starting the diet I got AF all on my own (only a 60 day long cycle, which was good for me) and then 2 weeks later I conceived.

@MrsBrewer: oh no I mean she told me to stop temping, stop freaking out, stop doing OPK's every day post period, etc. I just did the digital (clearblue) OPK"s CD10-20 and took met. She said DTD every other day but I traveled for 4 or 5 days right before I got the positive OPK so we just DTD that day and the next day. I still took some temps, but didn't when I was traveling, so I didn't really rely on them much that cycle. I think toning it down a little helped me not overthink it.

I was diagnosed with PCOS with mild IR after TTC for 9 months. I didn't start Metformin, but I did begin to follow a low glycemic index diet. It's similar to a diabetic diet, where you limit the amount and the type of carbs you consume. I concentrated on complex carbohydrates and pretty much cooked exclusively from a low glycemic index cookbook. It really wasn't that difficult of a change and it helped so much. I was pregnant 2 months later. Have you considered a diet change in addition to your medication?
