We usually tried to always seek out new places! There were a couple we went to multiple times, and visiting family was always something we did repeatedly, of course.

We did a variety of different trips. But we also went to visit my grandparents in Florida with a lot of regularity. Those trips were still exciting and memorable even though it was a location we had been to many times before!

Growing up we always went to the same mountain town. We loved it and have the best memories there. We still go there every summer now that we are grown with our own kids because we love it so much. It just feels like a second home.

Yes every year. It was a money saver, since it was my grandparents lake cottage. Now it's my parent's cottage and my parents expect us to make the trip every year, but I'd rather see nore of the world at this point. I have good memories of the lake, but I don't want to go there my entire life for vacations.

We went to a resort last summer and a lot of the families were repeat visitors. Many of the kids had known each other for a few years. I think it's nice to have that kind of consistency for little ones, and we have vague plans to maybe go back this summer if someone can help me watch the kids. Of course we'd love to see new places too, but that'll wait... for a toddler, just being able to run around and find bugs is plenty entertaining.

We didn't vacation that much when I was growing up, in the summer, we belonged to a local pool club and that was where we spent June through August.

My husband's family would go camping at the same site every single year, my inlaws still return.

As for my small family unit, we are kind of falling into the same routine, we've got family on a different continent and limited vacation time.

Growing up we always went to a lake 6 hours away 3 times during the summer. We had a houseboat. Hmm, not sure what we will do now. We do go to my parents cabin several times a year. And then we usually hit up LA once a year and Minnesota. But I would like to add in other places too. Vacations are so great!

We have something Disney related for three falls in a row. But I don't intend on doing that every year. Then again, I've been saying that every year. I would go to Whistler again and again as a family vacation since I have family in Seattle and I could stop and say hi.

Yes, for both of us. We both love the places we vacationed growing up, but we try to mix it up too. Right now we are mostly going with national parks that are drivable since it's easier for us with small kids.

We do about 3 trips a year, and I assume we will revisit some every few years, but aside from visiting grandparents, I don't see us doing the same vacation very frequently.

Both DH's and my families live far away, so (finances permitting) we plan to go see each of them at least once a year. If we're able to fit in other trips aside from those, we will mix it up and go different places.

When I was little, we usually took one vacation per year but never went to the same place twice.

We go on a family beach trip to NC every summer, although as of this summer every other year we're picking a new non-beach spot (this year it's a lake house in Northern PA).

I'd love to travel to different places, but I just don't get that much leave (and with my job I can't take unpaid leave except under special circumstances). I'm happy using the time I get to spend time with our family--it's one of the few times a year we're all together. And D and his brothers used to do the same beach trip every year as kids, and they LOVED it and still talk about (and why we started the tradition back up with the new kids).

If we can afford it we might try some small long weekend trips, but it's not something we're prioritizing.

Interesting! My parents were the polar opposite of this - they always took me somewhere new for vacations. Even camping. When I was little we started going to the state parks closest to us but over the years we had to keep going further and further to go to a new places, so I'm pretty sure I've been to every state park within a 3 hour drive of my dad's home. Vacations were all over the US and to several international locations as well, I don't think any were ever repeated.

The only place I went consistently was to visit family, which did include some vacationy type places like my aunt/uncles lake house and my great-grandmother's condo in Fort Lauderdale. So those are like repeat vacation spots. We still visit my aunt/uncle every summer at the lake (we're going in 2 weeks!). And we're actually planning to go Fort Lauderdale (my grandmother inherited the condo when Granny passed years ago) during our FMLA overlap when baby is around 10 weeks old!

My husband's family basically did a long weekend trip to local state parks every summer and a big ski trip every winter while he was growing up. I think they went to all different places, but there was some minimal overlap.

As adults we generally go to different places for vacations, so I imagine we'll do the same once a kid is here. We may have a "regular" place for short weekend trips, but for big trips, we'll likely want to try new places. And, of course, we'll keep visiting family, which will be a regular thing.

@regberadaisy: Was it the Don Cesar? That place is fantastic.

We did a lot of things multiple times growing up - went to the same places in FL for a few years, went to the same place in the Adirondacks for a few years too. We now take DS to visit my parents in FL every year, and we've been going to the Cape every summer.

I think while the kids are young, it's easiest to go to the Jersey shore or to Ocean City, MD. We went to MD a lot as kids, and once we started to get older, we started taking trips to other locations which was a lot of fun. But I do still remember our MD trips as my favorite.

We've started a Jersey shore tradition where we're going to a few of the different shore points, and I love it. We'll see what we do moving forward.

We'll probably always do a week in Ocean City, NJ since my inlaws have a vacation home there. Other vacations will depend on time off and finances for the year. I also wouldnt mind doing adult vacations too. This year we went to the DR with friends and left our LO with her Grandparents for 4 days. It was wonderful to reconnect and recharge with my husband and friends.

I could see doing a small trip to the same place each year, like a close by camping spot. But I definitely have no interest in "wasting" a chance to see somewhere new, and DH feels the same! He's already planning the places he wants to take LO. (He loves to plan!)

Though now that I think about it, his job has us move a lot. So it probably won't make sense to go to the same place no matter what, since what might be a 3 hour drive this year could be a 12 hour flight next year.

Growing up, we always went to Cape May in June and Disney World in August. ALWAYS. Sometimes my parents threw an extra vacation in there (Hawaii, Marco Island, New York City, etc), but there was tons of repetition. On the plus side, we have lots of great memories and traditions, but I definitely want to branch out more with my kids!

We visited my grandparents in Florida and it was so much fun. I have a lot of memories of those trips. I guess we kind of do the same thing but my parents are not too far away so we go there several times a year. We stay over for a week+ during the summer while my sisters and their families visit so I hope all the kids have fun memories of that. It is kind of like a vacation because there is a pool and they are really close to the beach but we have neither.

As a kid, we went to the DC area quite a lot on vacation because my dad's best friend lives there. We also went to Thailand every few years because that is where my dad is from. I have various memories from different ages, it's neat!

Now, we vacation in France at least once a year because my husband's family is there (and it's relatively close). We don't see my family as often because they are harder/further to get to. Other than family trips, we try to go to different places each time we travel.

My parents worked long hours, so our typical family vacations were three day wknds (holidays). We went to Mackinac Island, Niagara, and camping at the same lake almost every year, but my brother and I both loved it! We'd look forward to the same activities and special spots we'd go to... my parents have pics of us at the same spot as we were growing up. We actually took our parents back to one of the fam vacation spots with DH a few years back pre-LOs and it was an amazingly nostalgic trip for us all!

So far our family vacations have been to different spots, but Dh and I would love to find a spot we can take our kids to again. We're contemplating places to buy a second/vacation home for the future!

My kids are 5 and 3 and so far, I love taking them to the same place (Williamsburg, VA) for the last 2 years. We rent a timeshare (2 bed/2 bath) and spend 5-7 days there, just swimming, going out to eat, going to the beach (Yorktown), and relaxing. We are going again in two weeks!

Besides Williamsburg, we also take them on a big trip, preferably new location. Last year was Disney World (although that wasn't new) and this year will be California.

We will always go on a beach trip each year wth the inlaws and will probably find a spot to camp for a long weekend each year too. Big trips we will mix it up though. There is too much that I want to show her and so much of the world I want to see myself.

We had the same campground that we went to 3-4 times a year with a variety of family and friends. However, we also took a ton of regional trips that were different all the time.

We used to go to the same 2 or 3 campsites as a kid. I'd love our kids to have similar memories but first I need to convince dh just to take a camping trip!
