My DD had to have blood drawn from her arm at 12 months for allergy testing. She didn't cry at all! And she's definitely the crying type. We distracted her by singing and she didn't even really notice. It was pretty fast and apparently pretty painless!

@sorrycharlie: R is the same with shots. 6 months we brought a bottle, since she was getting one formula a day anyway. So that helped. DH feed her right away and then held her while I checked out. Much easier with two of us verses me just going.

@Smurfette: we got a lab slip at her 1-year well visit, and I waited two weeks but finally went. I literally started losing sleep over it at like, 7 months old. ridiculous. but I PROMISE it's not as bad as it sounds. everyone told me that - and obviously, based on the thread I'm commenting on - I thought they were full of it. The worst part seemed to be that they were holding her in place. They have you sit with baby on your lap, hold one arm down and then keep your other arm across her legs so she can't launch herself. two people hold her other arm and draw. it took like, 3 minutes tops! soon as they took the needle out she was totally fine. shots, she continued to wail down the hallway and to the car!

we survived! she actually did much better than she did at her well visit (terrified of the doctor out of the blue, great). cried but not that hard, and was fine when they were done. she got mad that the nurse didn't *give* her the band aid and stuck it to her arm, though!

@sorrycharlie: We had that a month ago. I thought it was just a pin prick. LO hated it, but liked playing with his band-aid afterwards.

Awww, I'm sorry. We did not have to do a blood draw at 1. But I'm sure the nurses will help you.

We had ours recently (and had a blood draw at 4 days old for jaundice.) you'll hold her, they'll help you, and she will be unhappy a little while but otherwise fine! You can do this!

@mediagirl: thank you! Her well visit was a nightmare because she decided she was terrified of the nurse and dr and screamed the entire time. For the blood work, it's standard in our area I guess, at ages 1,2 and 3 to rule out lead poisoning and anemia.

I ended up never doing the 1 year blood draw either, I chickened out but I feel better about it now and will do it if the doctor still says she needs it since she is nearly 18 months old now

It'll be okay. The nurses and doctors do this all the time and they're used to it, they'll help you through it.

Can you remind me why she needs a blood draw?

I have to bring LO for her 1-year blood work today. I've managed to put it off for 2 weeks. I know in the grand scheme of things it's nothing and it could always be worse BUT I'm still an anxious wreck!!

It's a full arm draw :(
