Was about to write a long thing of support...but wow, that happened fast, she's doing it! Congrats, mama!

But I did just want to say to any of the other moms worrying about this who are like, "Oh crap, now her baby is doing it too?! Mine's older and still not crawling!" After months of frustration about it and whining and fussing, my LO started crawling just before his 1st birthday...and within a week he is now all over the place moving at lightening speed! They'll get their, they just each have their own different timeline

Update:

She did it! She did it!!!!!!!

@irene: You were right - to the day! She was spinning around for two weeks and she crawled today!!!

@lawbee11: @Foodnerd81: You were so right! I did the bare knees thing and after about an hour playing she did a little two "step" crawl. So I got the camera out - and then this happened!!!

@LuLu Mom: It was the rocking horse! That was the thing that eventually prompted her to crawl. She loves that thing!!

@Rockies11: @MamaMoose: @Anagram: @lucy123: @stargal: @grizz: @Ree723: @babynumber1: Thank you so much for all your wise words yesterday. I really was on the ledge and you calmed me right down!! She was just 20 hours away from crawling!!!

And.... here it is..... Elliott crawling!! (I'm so freaking proud!!).

@irene: She does do the spinning round thing on the laminate (complete with screamy soundtrack!!). Yeah, it's like she's trying to swim in the air, isn't it?! I often get on the floor and crawl about - and she is surrounded my crawling babies at daycare! We also put her on her hands and knees (and then DH and I crawl about!!) but she throws herself into this position and starts swimming again. Poor little thing! She will be 18 and I will be dropping her off and university, watching her "swim" up to the front doors!!

@Cherrybee: Oh you should definitely try bare knee and bare foot time like @Foodnerd81: suggested. M was able to get on all fours and crawl much easier when she was in just a short-sleeve onesie. It also took about a week of crawling before she could crawl on our laminate floors...carpet and rug were much better for her while learning.

@Foodnerd81: Hmm, no, we haven't tried barefoot or bare knee time - and also, we have laminae floors throughout which are very slippy AND a head banging issue (like one big bang per day and a number of small bangs). I'm going to try that tomorrow (she will be too tired tonight when she gets in).

@Rockies11: Thank you. That's so reassuring. I guess you only see footage of and hear brags about babies that *are* doing these things. It's clearly more common than I thought to take a bit longer.

@Cherrybee: Another thought, I wonder if it would help if you literally lay on the ground as well and show her how to crawl? Just literally show her, see, use your arm and scoot yourself forward, see? And then try to position her arm in position and help her to see how she should move her arm to get herself forward? Seeing the video I think maybe she thinks if she swings her arms and feet fast enough she would move lol. But regardless, I think she is very close.

Another thought is, my son started "spinning around" (like a clock on the floor) before he start crawling, so he focuses on one arm first. So I wonder if you could help her understand that she can focus on using one of her arms first to have some kind of mobility.

Sorry you are so worried! I hope it happens soon - and then you'd be worrying she's crawling off of the bed or something ;-)

@Cherrybee: Oh my gosh she's so cute. I can see the difference where you blow dry her hair-- I love both. But that's not the point, is it?

I think she's fine. Do you give her barefoot time? I think the bare feet help give them something to push off of, where the footie bottoms are more slippery. We've been doing a lot of onesie, no pants, time and I think the bare knees are gripping better too, though now she has some rough skin on her knees. C is almost exactly the same age and she started pushing up to sitting a little over a week ago, I think, and start really scooting herself forward (instead of just pushing backwards and getting stuck) shortly after that. She started pulling herself up to standing maybe a week ago, and very quickly got really good at it-- the first couple of times she could barely do it but they learn really fast. And she just yesterday started properly crawling, but will still flop onto her belly and scoot instead most of the time.

Totally agree with @lawbee11: that non-toys are way more enticing. C's favorites include my iphone, the remote control (why?? I never ever watch TV with her!), my slippers (ew), and laundry baskets. She loves to pull up on the Baby Einstein music table.

I think the plus side of being on the later end of pulling up and crawling, for us at least, is we skipped that stage where they can pull up but not sit back down. She is just a little more cautious and does things in her own time. She also babbles more than a lot of her baby friends, so I figure she was working more on talking than moving.

Mine is 10 months and sounds exactly the same. She has only ever rolled twice maybe? Doesn't crawl, doesn't scoot, doesn't stand unassisted, won't even stand holding on to something unless that something is my fingers. Can't move from lying to sitting, or sitting to standing. Some lady in a store the other day described her as "delayed". Although really active babies do undo me a little bit from time to time, I try to focus on her areas of development that are working - like her wicked fine motor, and think that gross motor skills just aren't her bag right now. But yeah, it's sort of challenging to have a non-mover!

I think your LO is totally fine and she'll get there in her own time. But I'm a big believer that if something is worrying you, you should always bring it up to the pediatrician, if for nothing other than piece of mind.

@lucy123: That's something else we have struggled with, really. No, she doesn't love her food. After the initial "Wah, I'm starving" has passed, she gets very easily distracted (she's 50th centile for height and around 30th for weight- with a lot of coaxing) and stops eating. She does love the laptop, mobiles and remote controls though - and our cups & glasses.

@Cherrybee: I know it's hard not to stress, but my LO still isn't crawling either and she's a week 1/2 older than your LO. She belly crawls and has been for a couple of months--but still doesn't really get up on her knees.

She doesn't sit up from a laying down position, and she *just* pulled up for the first time about 4 days ago and hasn't done it since (she's been trying again, but she gets frustrated and then gives up).

She was late to sitting up unassisted without being really floppy (did it right at 7 months when other babies were doing it at 4 months).

I worry sometimes too, but I think she's just a little late to all of the milestone. So far, our doctor isn't worried--her fine motor skills are great--she's been able to pick up small finger foods using the pincer grasp since 7 months and plays with toys with both hands, is good at mimicking motions (like, she'll give us a high five and clap and drum on the table if we do it).

But I know it's hard to see younger babies doing things that our babies aren't doing!

Oh, poor mom! I remember those baby days it was really nerve wrecking for the moms (and the dads) because we always fear if something is wrong and we should do something.... is she thriving, is she eating enough, is she eating too much, why is she not talking, why is she not rolling over...etc. argh :( Hugs!!!

To be honest, when I read your original opening post, I was a tad bit worried for you. Then I watched your videos, I think she is fine! She is so alert and she is really trying. She will get there ! Of course I would mention it to the pediatrician and see what he/she thinks, if I were you.

Big hugs to you!!!!
