Week 7 was REALLY tough. But it got better really quickly! You're through the worst, just hang in there a little longer

Those weeks were hard for us too. Fuuuuussssssy. It was hell because week 6 was when I was diagnosed with ppd. But I think you should expect to see a big improvement in about the next week or so. :) Supposedly weeks 6-8 are the peak of fussiness. Aside from illness it has never been that bad for us again. Maybe not even with illness although dd didn't get even a cold til 11m.

@Kemma: hehe suck the kumara :silly:

Cluster feeding is so hard when you are used to the norm. I think we're just coming out of the other side of this but we found it made his day sleeps so cruddy., as he was continually waking up "starving". I agree with Kemma about the handoff -DH took CJ for a 45 minute walk in the stroller on Sunday cause I was just at my limit. He didn't cry the entire time then got whingey the moment he came back in the door but I felt better for just being able to lie in bed for 45 mins in piece and quiet.
Remember that once you've fed off both sides there is no possible way he can actually be starving, so there is no harm in taking a break if you have really hit the wall

@Danizaur: yup, cluster feeding can certainly suck the kumara sometimes!! My advice would be to hand your LO off to your DH and take ten minutes for yourself to shower / eat / cry / go walking so that you can at least have a wee break. Chances are he might also calm down if you're out of sight and he can't smell the milk. Hang in there, Mama!

I don't have any other great advice, but I completely second others that said it will get better. Hang in there!

I was EPing during the 6w growth spurt but this is exactly how it was for us for several days. He'd freak. the. holy. frick. out.

He'd take a drink from the bottle, scream, relatch onto the bottle, scream, etc. he was sucking down bottle after bottle and miserable the whole time.

It passed after a few days but was always the worst in the evenings. This too shall pass, don't worry Mama, you're doing exactly what you should be doing and you're the best, most comforting thing to him, even if it doesn't seem that way.

The 6w growth spurt was brutal. I remember leaving the house and going to McDonald's, having a large chocolate milkshake and crying while DH was at home with LO.

Just hang in there! 6/7 weeks is also when he started getting really gassy. Maybe try some gripe water too?

It will get better. I remember this phase all too well, and it was so tough. I think weeks 5-7 were the worst for us. You will get through it, he will stop being so fussy, and you'll feel human again. Hugs...I know it feels like it will be like this forever.

I remember this too. It as so hard. I remember thinking what in the world did I get myself into! We nursed a lot and went for walks with him in the boba wrap. The fresh air seemed to do us both good. If it wasn't nice out I put him in the wrap and vacuumed. I'm sorry you are going through this but I promise it will get better!

The 6-7 week mark was the worst for us - basically the same evenings you are describing. Hang in there, it does get better!!! The only thing that helped my LO calm down enough was some time in the Ergo while I was waiting for more milk to come in and then we would also go outside briefly for fresh air. Something about being outside even for just a few minutes seemed to help distract him enough.

LO is almost 7 weeks old and has been having fussy evenings and cluster feeding for almost 2 weeks. From 6pm-9pm we are just switching back and forth nursing constantly. With a lot of crying and fussiness in between.

Tonight it started at 4:30 and is still going strong at 7pm. He screams when he can't latch by himself, he screams when I try and give him a push to get him latched, he screams when I try and hold him instead...the only time he's content is when we can compromise some sort of latch and he nurses for about 3 minutes and we start all over.

Just at my wit's end. I think I'm going crazy! I need a break but there's nothing DH can do to help! Tonight is really rough. I'm sad that when I go back to work I'll miss my happy baby during the day and come home to a fussy baby who I can't help no matter what I do.
