She might be ready for shorter naps. Maybe put her down 20-30 minutes later for the 2nd nap, but make sure she is awake by 4pm.

Mine often isn't ready for her afternoon nap until 3:30. I've let her nap until 4:45 and she still goes down at 7:30 without a fuss. I was shocked, but it worked.

Can you just do a later bedtime? Like @Sammyfab: we just base bedtime off the last nap too.

We have had a similar issue though because LO takes really long naps that can interfere with nighttime sleep so I have been letting her nap as long as she wants in the morning & keeping her afternoon nap to 2 hours max. She has started to drop one wake-up (KNOCK ON ALL THE WOOD) so I think waking her up from her nap is working for us, contrary to the "sleep begets sleep" line of thinking.

@illumina: haha...yes, they're so confusing but ridiculously adorable! My son never followed 2-3-4...he needed a longer wake time in the morning and a shorter one before bed. At 8 months, we did something like 3-3-2.5/3. And like I mentioned before, his afternoon nap never lengthened - we were lucky to get an hour! We went to 2 naps at 6.5 months and 1 nap at 12 months. He is a great sleeper but I really managed his sleep, i.e. I forced nap transitions if they were affecting his night sleep. It sounds like you guys are doing great!

@Sammyfab: thank you :) I keep reading posts on here where the majority followed a 2-3-4 schedule until they transition to 1 nap, but that didn't seem to work for us. babies, huh?! ;)

Maybe just try putting her down 10-15 minutes later and she'll take less time to fall asleep? If she's content though, just let her be...quiet time in the dark is a form a rest!

@Sammyfab: she's happy enough in the afternoon, just talking to herself etc. it almost seems as though she's not tired enough, even though I can tell she is. It feels like the same thing that happened before we dropped the 3rd nap...it was getting hard to get her down at like 5pm until we dropped it.

It sounds like a great schedule to me! I think that if you want to keep 7pm your bedtime you should wake her up from her afternoon nap by 4pm. You could maybe cut the morning nap, but I would just let her take her time to fall asleep in the afternoon. Is she upset or just settling down?

We never had a set bedtime, we just based it off when the last nap ended. My son's afternoon nap was always short (with a long morning nap) so he was usually in bed by 6:30!

Ok so LO is 8 months and she's definitely not ready to move to 1 nap yet, but she has a pretty long wake time tolerance and I'm not sure how to find a schedule that works.

When she was 6 months she went from 3 naps to 2 on a 3-3-3 schedule and it was working great! But now fast forward a couple of months later and she can stay awake longer, so she wakes at around 6.30am and isn't ready to go down for nap 1 until 10am. Then she naps for 1.5hrs usually, waking at 11.30am...but then she's not ready to go down until after 3pm. Now she falls asleep for the first nap easily, but the 2nd is becoming more and more of a struggle with her fussing and waving her arms and wriggling around the cot for 20-30mins. So then if she naps any later past 4pm, bedtime at 7pm will be a problem!

What do I do? Cut the 1st nap short so she goes down earlier for the 2nd or continue to cut the 2nd short?
