@MrsRoo: The only time I avoided baby kisses was when I had strep. Like I said.... anything that I started showing symptoms of I know P was already exposed to & we night nurse & she sleeps in/right next to our bed. I think in some cases baby's exposure doesn't happen at the same time the sick persons exposure happen (like when big bro/sis brings something home) but I think for the most part since baby is so attached to the nursing mom (like all. the. time) that they get exposed very early & our antibodies just help them fight it off before it "manifests" symptoms.

DH would always get "now I can't snuggle or kiss her" when he gets sick & then I remind him.... "ummm babe, she sleeps. in. our. bed" lol. She's only gotten that 1 cold from us & DH gets sick all the time! ;)

Thank you :)
Missing out on baby kisses is worse than being sick! :( I can restrain myself though if it will help me avoid passing anything on to LO. I wouldn't have the slightest clue what to do for a sick baby at this point.

@hellobeeboston: @hergreenapples: thankfully it's the weekend so DH can help out with the MOTN feeding so I can get some rest. He's bringing me home some soup for lunch, too.

If you're just now seeing the results of exposure & you're nursing then it's very very likely that your lo has already been exposed & is likely getting the benefits of antigen specific antibodies your body started making her as soon as you came into contact with whatever you have. ;)

I've been sick a handful of times & P sleeps in our bed! She's gotten 1 cold from us BUT it was very very mild (both DH & I were laid our for a few days & she just got a bit stuffy).

Just keep nursing & I wouldn't worry. ;)

I've been sick the same 3 times LO was sick, most recently this past weekend! Keep nursing!! Supposedly you pass along immunities to the babe. Each of the 3x we were sick, LO was over it much quicker than me (thankfully!!). I tried to wash my hands more often and not kiss his face/mouth like normal too.

Feel better!! No fun being sick, especially with a baby. Hopefully you can try to get some extra rest too.

@MrsRoo: I came down with a fairly nasty summer cold a couple weeks ago. I nursed DD through it and she didn't get sick. I also washed my hands a million times a day, wiped down everything I touched with Lysol wipes and didn't kiss DD (so hard!).

The other thing that really helped was that DH took over he'd MOTN feeding one night so that I got a good rest...that was life-saving!

Feel better soon. It sucks being sick when you have a young baby :(

When it comes to breastfeeding, you can pretty much nurse your baby through anything. Just keep your kisses and snuggles to a slight min. I hope you feel better soon!

I've been feeling like I was coming down with something all week, and woke up this morning with a sore throat. I know I should continue to nurse LO, but is it possible I could get her sick? Or have I already? She's 13 weeks, and never been sick, I'm not ready for her to start now!

Have you been sick around your LO? How did you avoid getting them sick too?
