And one more question- did your babies seem to react to these early contractions/cramps? Every time I have one, after it lets up the baby starts moving a bit more (mostly punching my cervix- thanks kid).

Just laying hear obsessing searching hb for these kind of threads...

More and more cramping this morning plus some gross brownish mucus this morning (sorry, gross). I know it could still be a while but I'm definitely feeling like things are happening and getting ready for the big event. I just keep reminding myself that this is preparing for the baby one way or another!

I had cramping and contractions like you're describing for at least a week before labor actually started - every time I would get excited and think that maybe something was happening, they would stop. I was searching all of the internet basically trying to find an answer for how soon it would be, but as you seem to know or be realizing, there's really no way of telling since it really is different for everyone. The morning of my due date they started getting harder and more regular, and I lost a bit of my mucus plug, but then just as I was getting ready to call the doctor they started getting further spaced apart again, and more random. My water ended up breaking that night at 9PM, which was about 15 hours after the contractions had started feeling real that morning. I was 3cm dilated at that point, and the contractions and pain immediately got quite intense. 10 hours, two centimeters, and lots of heart rate drops later, I ended up with a C-section.

But some people are way different. My SIL told me 10 million times how weird it was that everything dragged on so long for me, because shortly after feeling some cramping her water broke, and four hours later she had her baby. I resisted the urge to throw something at her, LOL.

Mine kind of came out of nowhere. I lost what I thought was my plug on a Wednesday night, then real contractions and my water leaked/broke early Friday morning, and I was induced early Saturday morning when labor never got going on its own. If you had asked me on Thursday if I would have a baby on Saturday I would have said no. So the first painful contractions I had were actually labor for me. Previously I had lots of painless braxton hicks, but the real ones were clearly different.

I hate to say, but I'm no help. I worked from 8-5pm on the day that I went into labor, Monday morning. Throughout the day, I noticed some minor cramping, but nothing to stop me in my tracks while working. I thought that maybe I was dilating for my appointment on Thursday. It wasn't until I got home and a couple hours later couldn't get comfortable and had to walk our hallway. After that, it was obvious I was in labor.

@Foodnerd81: Lol, poor guy! If I recall correctly I was actually texting DH through the day about my contractions.

a bit OT: It really was a HORRIBLE day.. not because the 10-15 minute contractions so much but b/c G had TWO meltdowns! My mom offered to come pick him up since I had basically been up all night & he freaked (as I'm sitting on my ball breathing through contractions) b/c he didn't want to go. So he basically cried until he fell asleep (I wasn't even going to try & reason with him)... when my mom called that she was ready, he was still sleeping so I said nevermind... then he woke up & found out he WASN'T going so he freaked again!

Really... re-telling it now it's pretty laughable... atm it was not so much! lol SO... I guess atleast you won't have that to be dealing with too! LOL

@runsyellowlites: It's maybe a good thing though, because he still keeps dragging his feet about certain things saying we will do them this weekend-- which is fine now but on Tuesday and Weds I was like... I cannot guarantee we have this weekend... It's like he views the due date as the opening gate and things won't happen before then.
But still, I felt bad. I said I wouldn't call unless I was in labor after that, all other questions are by text :)

@Foodnerd81: Lol! That's so funny! I would just reiterate that in almost all cases labor is NOT like you see in the movies (occasionally there are those ummm we need to go now moments but that's not the norm). Even if you WERE calling to say you were in labor it wouldn't be something he needed to freak about. lol

Oh and one other question- did the need to pee increase as you get closer? I swear lately I need to pee by the time I get back to my seat from going to the bathroom sometimes.

I definitely have poor DH a little scared now. I keep telling him that this could go on for a while, but as soon as I say the word contraction he gets nervous. I called him at work with a question about the circuit breaker and he cut off a business call because he thought it was go time. I was like oh, sorry... but how do I fix that?

I had false labor for about a week beforehand. My contractions would get to 5 minutes apart, but they always tapered off before reaching an hour. I will say that actual labor wasn't much different, except the contractions continued for more than an hour, and they obviously got more intense.

I never felt my BH contractions begin or end, but I did notice my stomach get hard now and then--they were not painful at all. For what it's worth, during the last 5 days before I went into labor, I was feeling a lot of cramps like you explained. I also had irregular contractions all day leading up to my water leaking. I was 3cm dilated and 100% effaced when I got to the hospital (and before my labor really started--I had to go only because my water was leaking!).

@runsyellowlites: Thanks-- I need to keep reminding myself that it could go on for days or a week. On one hand, I'm totally fine with going past my due date-- I've always assumed I would. On the other hand... I'd rather not be so uncomfortable while I wait! (which, um, every pregnant woman ever would probably agree with).

I had nightly "false" labor for a week (literally from 1-7 am every night) and then had consistent but spaced contractions for 37 hrs before kicking into active labor (and we actually helped that by me talking a melatonin & using a rebozo to get P in a better position).

It was one of those things I just kind of noted & slept & rested through as much as I could!

I'm not putting this into Birth in Progress, because I don't think that's what it is. But I've been having menstrual like cramps, some contractions, on and off for a couple of days-- like, Weds evening they were kind of bad, then I was able to sleep, so clearly not real labor. Picked up again Thursday morning then stopped completely. This afternoon I was sitting in traffic for an hour and a half and started up again with the menstrual like cramps, then a few very uncomfortable but not quite painful contractions (made worse because I really had to pee!). Any actual contractions have been at least 20 minutes apart and not regular.

I know this can come and go for days so I'm interested to hear what your early labor, starting contractions, and days leading up to the labor were like. I'm due on Tuesday so it come be right now or 2 weeks from now...
