You will spend a lot of time in there and if it's going to make you happy to look at it, and you can afford it, do it. If you make a registry with PBK you can get 10% or something off closer to your due date. The crib skirt was great in the beginning but once we lowered it to the lowest level (at about 8 months when LO started pulling up in the crib) i took the skirt off because it was too long and dragged on the floor. I could have hemmed it but I just never got around to it. I am reusing it for baby girl though so I just set it back up. I do like the idea of turning it into a valence eventually though! I picked out a crib and bedding that totally didn't work well together. The crib is solid in the back with no slats so tying a bumper is impossible. It looks dumb and falls over which totally is a safety hazard. I know bumpers are a no no but I had it in there when the child barely moved. Then once the mattress was dropped you couldn't even see the skirt. And I had to drop the mattress very early on as DS1 was a mover from the beginning. For safety reasons we have his quilt and bumper up in the closet. I was a FTM and spent the bulk of my money on the quilt and bumper... I didn't realize that they would be put up.
