oh and charlie had a number of respiratory viruses so we always had our nebulizer and albuterol on hand (prescription). that always helped.

When my DD was younger, she had croup a lot. The pediatrician said to take her outside or in the garage (bundle her up first) so she could breathe the cold air to open her airways. My DD had croup enough that I kept the steroid medicine on hand, but the one time I didn't have it I took her outside and it helped. Talk to your pediatrician, though, to get their opinion on it.

the cold air helps. also standing in a steamy bathroom. sleeping upright (charlie slept in his stroller). we also kept his bedroom window open and just bundled him up.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: When M had croup we just did normal cold stuff--humidifier, steamy bathroom, nose frida. The ped also prescribed an oral steroid. We also did Tylenol, but she had a fever. Hope K feels better soon! Croup was rough for us.

Depending on where you live, you could take her outside into the cool/cold night air. I live in SoCal, so an RN told us to stand in front of the open freezer. The change in temperature is good to open the airway.

K has been waking up frequently the last few nights, just seeming uncomfortable. Tonight, when she woke up, she had this harsh, barking cough. When she was crying, every inhale sounded similar (like a bark almost?).

She doesn't seem to have trouble breathing, has no fever, just a runny nose, and is pretty cranky. This sounds like croup to me; is there anything other than a humidifier I can try to make her feel better?
